This is a picture of a frozen gate...it could not be opened...no matter how hard I tried it was frozen solid...blocking the path! In life...we sometimes feel like this...that there is no way forward...no matter how hard we try, we feel worthless and stuck! It doesn’t matter how big the wall is in front of you...how stuck you may feel...there is always a way through it! In this instance...I just climbed the gate...simple right! Well it is that simple!!! Whatever the struggle...whatever the negative thought...whatever it is...we must get to the other side...just climb the gate! Stay positive, forward thinking and smile...all will be ok! #mentalhealth#itsokaynottobeokay#inspiration#motivation#totalascentuk

What an awesome day it’s been in the Lake District. *
Winter Conditions, 23rd Jan 2019:
Skiing ⛷ 🎿: Just Awesome 💫 Touring on the summits is perfect, some rock around, but easily avoidable. Snow is soft and powdery, wind pisted occasionally. Pockets of good snow cover rocks in many areas, but a careful eye is needed to avoid problems. Slopes seem very stable.
Running 🏃🏼♀️ 🏃♂️🏔: excellent conditions for winter running. Heavy going off the paths. Light powdery snow means microspikes not so useful, but would work well on tracked in routes and places like striding edge etc.
Winter climbing: some climbers reported it was a better day for skiing, whilst the Red Tarn Face is frozen, powdery snow makes it tough climbing. This Fridays mini thaw should bring some interesting conditions for Sunday at least. *
Remember, it’s full winter out there right now, make sure you have the skills, the right equipment and know how to use it. *
So lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the world - a quick run today whilst on standby! A beautiful crisp morning with with snow underfoot and temperatures as low as -4 - ideal running conditions!
Winter weather about as good as it gets. Crisp snow covering compared to last night. Blue skies everywhere. Cold air below freezing. Hardly anyone out. Quick climb of Higgar Tor gully too. Absolutely bloody gorgeous! More of the same please! 15.5km 465m 1hr 27mins of fun running. #ukrunchat#fellrunning#theoutdoorcity#peakdistrict#winterweather

It now makes perfect sense to me that the 1st Barkley finisher was from the UK. *me, looking at maps before run* - "what a nice system of trails, this will be great!"
*2 miles into run* - "what is this?! Just because some sheep walked across this field 200 years ago doesn't make this a path!"
*5 miles in* - "why am I running through this person's barn?! Is this right?"
*9 miles* - "geez did someone swap my shoes out for Hokas? No... looks like there's just 3 inches of mud and horse poop caked onto the bottom of my Bushido."
*13 miles* - "stop staring at me cow! Yes of course I know what I'm doing. I'm not lost, you're lost!"
*18 miles, path abruptly ends for the 25th time on a random road with no indication of where it starts again* - "Uber works here right? Cool. Oh wait, no one wants to drive way out here to get me? Guess we're doing another few miles down this road with zero shoulder..." But seriously, these are the kinds of things that good adventures are made of. Looking forward to more exploring and learning my way around here.
Probably one of the closest summits over 500m to home is Hopegill Head which is only a short car ride away
Planned to get up over the tops for some easy miles today but didn’t reckon on so much snow overnight, just below the summit is a slab of rock, today It was covered with snow and ice so decided to make a retreat
(I’d just finished night shift and forgot to pack micro spikes and ice axe)
I could of probably got up but a slip would have meant a long way down
