So having felt this way for over 18 months I can honestly say Im struggling. The pain is constant. Running around outside in the freezing cold, on the beach, with my pup is a blessing. Yup you heard me.... RUNNING. Two months ago I couldn’t even walk, but now I’m back to playing fetch and racing my dog!

So fitting...especially now that I have this awesome vibrating throughout my body (mainly/strongest in my hips and down) that has decided to start over the past few months. It’s so annoying and is becoming painful after it goes on for so long. It does eventually stop for a bit and everything relaxes and I always say “my body turns off” and it’s a huge sign of relief when it does but then it always starts back up again. 😑 Ugh does it ever end?
I’m proud of myself today for doing something especially difficult: I spoke to Adult Social Care on the phone and we discussed what help and support I need at home. They were really nice and they said I sound like an urgent case so they’ll try and allocate someone to me to provide support as soon as possible.
Months before I moved I had made a self-referral to the Adult Social Care team in my old borough, but when they tried to contact me I wouldn’t answer the phone or call them back. I saw the calls and heard the voicemails, and I just couldn’t bring myself to accept that I needed help and take that extra step to reach out for it. It’s ironic as *I* had reached out to them in the first place - but I really grappled with the reality that I need the help and support that I do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a fiercely independent person in my late-mid-twenties, asking for and accepting formal support is so hard. How can a 26 year old who has run half marathons and travelled the world by herself be in this position? How can she be unable to cook a basic meal, or get dressed and bathe regularly? How can sitting up be so exhausting?
My refusal to call the ASC team back all those months ago stemmed from a refusal to believe that things really were as bad as they are. But now I’m accepting my situation and doing the right thing. I’m reaching out for support and this will ultimately make things much easier for me!
I will have fresh meals, and clean sheets, clean clothes, and someone I can always rely on to run my errands for me. I will no longer have anxiety attacks about asking friends for help, and I can stop hurting myself by forcing myself to do tasks which I’m unable to do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
