What is your favourite fantasy creature?
Every time someone asks me this question, I instantly pick dragon. Then I think "oh but what about a phoenix!", and two seconds after that "and a griffin!", "and of course unicorns. And a pegasus." The list just goes on and on forever. 😂
I looove rare fantasical beasts though. Like this gorgeous Saif (I think that's what it was called??) in Song of Leira, or *cough* pretty much every single creature in the Fantastic Beasts movies. (Nifflers are so adorable, guyyys.)
Can you decide on a favourite fantasy creature?

Forgot to post yesterday but Happy Earth day. This is my attempt at a book tree.
Why do you read YA?
I hear a lot of people say they like YA because it’s cleaner than adult. Which makes me ask, “What YA are you reading?” There’s very little content that you can’t put in a YA book. But maybe that content is more...tactful? I don’t know. I’m still very confused by that answer.
I read and love YA because it tends to be faster paced with character-driven conflicts, which I prefer to slower, plot-driven books. YA excels at hooking readers quickly and not letting go!
Do you have a favorite thing in nature? My faves are the ocean and trees. I realized recently that most of my books feature characters climbing trees, kissing in trees, and moving through heavily forested landscapes. Trees bring me a sense of calm and peace. A sense of roots and permanence. What about nature brings you joy?
This week's #fantasyonfriday theme is books and trees, which is basically a made-for-C.J. theme. What better book to feature in a tree than one that takes place in a wooded labyrinth? If you haven't yet grabbed a copy of To Best The Boys by @maryweberauthor, do yourself a favor and get it. It's fantastic!

Happy #FantasyOnFriday !
This week's theme is Book Tree. I thought about piling up my books to see what would happen . . . and then I thought about the way my cats might see that as a challenge, so I just went for a real tree.
At a school visit recently, the students and librarian gave me a gift bag full of goodies and . . . a tree. It's definitely one of the more unusual things I've been given at an event, but I like it. I named it Ferdinand.

Happy #fantasyonfriday everyone! The theme this week is book tree! But me...being me...I immediately thought "CHRISTMAS book tree!!!" 😂😍🎄 Yeah...I'm a Christmas every day kind of girl! LOL But it's okay, I wouldn't want to be any other way! 😁 .
The #FantasyonFriday prompt for today is “book tree.” I’m currently out of town but managed to snag my own take on it: “book and part of a tree” 🙈 This clipping is from our Rosebud tree on our property and I could stare at that tree all day. It’s so lovely and delicate and inspiring. And it paired so well with @lkblackburne’s books!
Do you have a favorite tree or flower? Rosebud comes close but my favorite is a dogwood tree!
Thank you to everyone for your sweet words and condolences regarding my last post. I’m now home and the memorial is tomorrow. God has brought a lot of peace and even joy to the situation. ❤️

For #fantasyonfriday , the prompt is “book tree.” Which...I did not know how to interpret 😂 But my favorite tree is my sakura, and when the petals fall, it reminds me of snow, and snow reminds me of @daniellempaige’s book, and...well that’s my interpretation of the prompt! 😅
The tree isn’t blossoming right now, but enjoy a video of a few weeks ago! 🌸
Do you like character art? Wanna see a sneak peek of my banshee from The Soul Crier? Swipe left. 🙂
Laura Hollingsworth is an amazing artist. I cannot wait to show you the full portraits in May. I decided early on that I wanted to do character art for my book. Honestly, mostly for me. But also for you guys too. I’m not a super visual writer when it comes to what my characters look like. So this whole process has been like bringing them to life. Really to life. I know their souls. Now I know their faces. As an update, I’ve actually stopped trying to put a release date on this story. The edits are being really difficult. This is the most challenging book, craft wise, that I’ve ever attempted. And I want to get it right. Right, not perfect. So it’s going to take me a bit more time. I am hoping it will be ready September/October for publication, but January 2020 is probably more accurate. Which might be better anyway since Winter is kind of an antagonist in the story. .
. #fantasyonfriday - #booktree - What can I say? I’m a rebel. And probably lazy or intimidated by doing a giant stack of books to make an actual tree. #storieswithstephapr19 - ultimate sacrifice. I picked these three books because there are characters I love who attempt or make the ultimate sacrifice. Especially Unbreakable by @saraellawrites 😭 oh I sobbed. So good though. #aprilbookstagram19 - swept away - Mary Weber, Sara Ella, and Sarah White write stories that always sweep me away. #fantasywipapril - what mistake has your main character made - Oooo spoilers. I think one I can talk about is how Wraith, my banshee, believes she has no power to change things because she’s cursed. Not true. 😉
🐥📚Happy Book Friday!🐥📚
And a happy Good Friday, too! Okay, confession time. I tried to create a book tree to follow the #FantasyOnFriday theme and failed miserably. So I'm cheating. I took a picture with trees in the background instead while listening to a #Coldplay album. So much easier, right? I love the song #inmyplace . It reminds me of The Last Namsara series by @kirstenciccarelli. The third book, The Sky Weaver, just had a cover reveal. Swipe to see it. .
. #QOTD - What song would you pair with the book you’re reading? .
Description of The Sky Weaver:
At the end of one world, there always lies another.
Safire, a soldier, knows her role in this world is to serve the King of Firgaard—helping to maintain the peace in her oft-troubled nation.
Eris, a deadly pirate, has no such conviction. Known as the Death Dancer for her ability to evade even the most determined of pursuers, she possesses a superhuman power to move between worlds.
When one can roam from dimension to dimension, can one ever be home? Can love and loyalty truly exist?
Now Safire and Eris—sworn enemies—find themselves on a common mission: to find Asha, the last Namsara.
From the port city of Darmoor to the fabled faraway Star Isles, their search and their stories become woven ever more tightly together as they discover the uncertain fate they’re hurtling towards may just be a shared one. In this world—and the next.
⚜️ You must be strong enough to strike and strike again⚜️ what are your favorite kind of books? I especially love fantasy books that keep me on my toes, guessing, and never able to put the book down🖤 The wicked King has all of this and more and has been my favorite read of the year!
Hooray for shelfies and minimall effort! I love King Arthur stories, but for some reason can't get past the first couple chapters of this one. Which is weird, since this seems to commonly be known as THE Arthur Story. I mostly keep the collectables around for the covers anyway 😉 I do, however, love the BBC Merlin!
In other news, I went to our students' production of Mama Mia tonight! They did a phenomenal job, and even the set way amazing! The rest of my weekend is devoted to reading (I might even buckle down and get some writing done 😛) QOTD: What is one of your favorite King Arthur stories? What are you doing this weekend?
Let’s go ahead and judge books by their covers. Just for today! What book or books do you think have the most captivating covers?
I’ve been telling Erin for years that she has the most gorgeous covers! She really won the author cover lottery! A lot of people don’t realize that we authors have zero say in our covers, so it’s always scary waiting on a new cover—not knowing whether or not you’ll like it.
I am currently waiting to see the cover art of my next book, THE SHADOWS BETWEEN US. I have no doubt it will be stunning, however, since my publisher is using the same artist who did WARRIOR OF THE WILD’s cover. Absolutely love Nekro’s work! You can see more of it on the tumblr account, TheArtOfNekro.
I had this grand vision of tidying up my shelves and decorating them with all the spring flowers popping up in my yard for #FantasyonFriday ’s shelfie prompt. Spring came with 80° and a burst of daffodils (which I promptly picked and put in a vase) and then today...it’s in the 30°s 🙈 And all the flowers are wilted, weak, and shivering. 🥀 .
I’m glad I saved SOME before the cold struck again, so they’re holding up the shelfie on their own next to some of my favorite books, which include basically anything written by @evelyn_skye.
Do you decorate your shelves? If so, what’s your go-to decorative item (other than books)? Candles? Flowers? Fairy lights? Funkos?

I get mad at my own characters when they get together with the “wrong” person. Which is, frankly, a bit ridiculous, because I’m the author and I control them, so it’s not like they decided it on their own. 😂
I write relationships that way, though, because that’s how real life happens. I’ve been through many a “wrong” relationship, and each time, I’ve had friends just shaking their heads over WHY I would date so-and-so... With each relationship, though, I learn something about myself, and I am lucky enough to have found my soulmate after a long road of learning. This is what I hope for my characters, too, and what I hope for all of you—that if you’re looking for someone (not everyone is!), that you’ll be blessed with exes who help you find a little of yourself with each relationship, and then you eventually figure out who you are and what you need and you find that person who is a perfect match!
Today’s #fantasyonfriday is “Who do you ship?” Tell me your favorite fictional couple, or your favorite real life couple!
Here are a couple of shelves that don’t get as much love (because the lighting on this side of the room is terrible, but I tried to make it work for this picture!). On the top shelf is the very first fan art I ever received, done by @gtal7!
Do you have a favorite style of cover??!
Today at #FantasyOnFriday we’re chatting about COVER LOVE - and when I went to pull out a few of my favorites for a pic I realized I clearly have a thing for blue lol.
These three are some you’ll find frequently facing out on my shelves simply because they make my room even more cheery!!
Anyone else have a theme they go for in covers?😂💎🙈

As an author, I always get so excited when my editor sends an email that says “we have a mock-up of the cover for your next book...” What makes a book jump off the shelf for you? I adore covers that scream “Fierce!” like WARRIOR OF THE WILD. I love beautiful covers like ROMANOV and THE WISH GRANTER. And I love unexpected cover art, like the sass on MY LADY JANE.
I’ve been blessed with innovative cover artists who have come up with gorgeous concepts for both THE CROWN’S GAME and CIRCLE OF SHADOWS series. This one in the photo is the German edition of The Crown’s Game. 😍
Is there something unique or special that you love about cover art?
