Today I got to spend the honor of loving up Uncle Vern, Auntie Karen & Danielle. While some might believe blood is thicker than water - I still believe in the power of love! #fightonunclevern#familyiswhatyoumakeit
Family is what you make it. My heart is so full! ❤️⠀
This also means my heart can hurt and break at any time and yet, while that is always a possibility when you bring people into your life, I wouldn’t change it. ⠀
I have often thought that it might be easier not to love or care as much as I do as it would mean the potential for hurts may be less but honestly, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t give all of my heart. It’s how I was created - I know this for certain - yet, I realize not everyone was created the same way. ⠀
So, while there is always a risk, I believe there are some things in this life worth risking while we are here - loving fully is definitely one of them! ⠀
Love freely, be open to the joy and then work hard and do all that is in your power to hold onto and cherish it. ⠀
13-14 years ago our bond was instant. I never needed blood or a piece of paper to tell me that you are my nephew and godson, in order for me to treat and love you as my own. I'm so thankful for all our years together and I'm so proud of the young man you have grown into. I can't believe my little Jojo @josephhilario7 is 17! Continue to be great kid! Happy birthday! @lovelycarmen07 Thank you for always being FAMILY! I love you and all your babies to death! #Familyiswhatyoumakeit
When the best part of your day comes in the form of an email from Scotland...It didn’t start out this way but part of my gentle parenting journey has become a need to know who I came from. Who were these people who handed down their parenting generation after generation? So far I’ve learned that among the many I’ve had a lot die in both world wars. One man must have had it pretty bad because he took his life a few days after Christmas in 1918 while posted in Egypt. Reading about my Nana being locked in a room because she said buggar makes me understand why she was physically abusive to her own kids. Hearing stories about my fathers’ upper class grandparents and how they wouldn’t attend tea unless the restaurant had ‘proper chairs’ (who gets to decide this anyway🤷🏼♀️), and how my great great great grandfathers mere existence threatened his powerful father in Glasgow in the 1800’s simply because he was an illegitimate child...let’s just say these stories have filled me with more questions than they have answers✨Back to Scotland...I have read a lot over the last few days and have managed to find a lead that hopefully will take me to where my 5th great grandfather lived. After the day I’ve had this feels like a big win and one I will happily take! #tiredmama#gentleparent#journey#familyiswhatyoumakeit#ancestry#monteiths#familysearch#mylife#dedicated
Seriously just had the best few days with these two amazing women! I feel really damn luckily to know them.
Which got me to thinking about the friends that have become family and you know I had to write about it! •

Day 2 #marchmeetthemaker2019 “how you got started”. I got started in the same way many amazing bookbinders, printers and conservators got started—hanging out at the @dawsonprintshop with Joe “I can’t get no respect”Landry. I technically I took my first bookbinding class at NSCAD in 2007 with Susan Mills then took A second class with Joe in 2008 but it wasn’t until 2013 that the Dawson roped me in on a regular basis.

As most of you know, I lost both parents in 2012. As you can imagine the holidays are tough. Having to celebrate family oriented holidays when the core of yours is no more, has been the hardest thing ever. However, I am blessed to have an extended family that has loved me all my life. We celebrate Kwanzaa every year and I look forward to our time. #familyiswhatyoumakeit
