I'm alone with all three kids today so a snowy walk to the grocery store is as exciting as it gets. But toddlers can make fun out of anything so the two block walk took more than an hour round trip. They had to clear the snow off EVERYthing we passed. So fun, right? Oof. Fingers crossed the roads are clear enough tonight for Aaron to make it back. I'm tired. (Sidenote to our Chicago friends: isn't it cute DC thinks this is a snow emergency?)
Muir Woods is absolute MAGIC! Honestly one of my favorite places on earth! Did you know that it's a National Monument? Of course, we had to stop for a picnic! #ad We're teaming up with @oroweatbread and @NoKidHungry Charity for their #BreadSelfieChallenge contest where you could win $10,000! Reminder that you have until March 31, 2018, to enter! Simply post your own bread selfie, tag @oroweatbread and use #BreadSelfieChallenge. Make sure your account is public! @NoKidHungry will receive $2 for each entry!
Little people, big #tabasco bottles. On our factory tour we learned of all the different varieties of Tabasco there were which was news to us because we thought there was only one! #familytravel#foodandtravel
❄️SLEDDING FUN❄️ at @tenayalodge 🛷Can you see my baby back there who lost his sledding disc? 😂 He thought it was more fun to go body sledding. The grown ups’ rears are still sore from this activity (not as young as we think we are 🙈) But it was tons of fun! My only regret about staying here is that we didn’t plan nearly enough time to just hang out and do all the lodge activities. Yosemite was amazing in the snow, but we needed an extra day here! And somehow this so-Cal, beach raised, sun loving mama ended up with 4 kids who adore the snow!! 🤷🏻♀️ Also...Happy first day of spring! 🌿🌳🌸
Happy Persian Naw Ruz and Happy Baha'i New Year!!
Each year I put up a haft seen (which you see here) as my husband is Persian. Each item on the table represents a positive attribute to bring into the new year. As we are both Baha'i I put up a picture of a Baha'i holy place (Shrine of the Bab in Israel) and a Baha'i prayer book.
Wishing everyone joy & contentment!! #nawruz#bahainewyear#haftseen
This art installation on the streets of Chicago looks so beautiful! Magic can happen when kids can interact with art - especially when parents don't have to fear them damaging priceless works! 🎨. Repost from @ytravelblog "Who has kaleidoscope fever? 💞
We love the funky art installations you stumble upon on the streets of Chicago. This one had to be one of my favorite art discoveries anywhere!! The super cool Prismatica can be found at Polk Bros Park at Navy Pier.
The 25 pivoting prisms are more than six feet tall and perfect for selfies with a difference." Visiting with @ChooseChicago#ad#ChicagoHome
This cool island park is just a quick ride from our house on the H Street "ding ding" (to borrow the streetcar nickname from Hong Kong). We should probably make the trip more often because Miles asked "what's nature?" when we used the word to describe what we were walking through. Also, everyone fell asleep instantly for an earlier than normal nap. Kingman Island might be our new favorite spot in DC.
See all those little houses down there? It's a long way up to the Aescher-Wildkirchli Berggasthaus trail head via cable car! Last summer while in Switzerland 🇨🇭 we spent some time in Appenzell and made the trek to the famous mountain hut.
I finally wrote a post with tips for a family day hike. The link is in the bio, check it out and tell me what you think. Have you been? I first became aware of this place on Instagram! Such a great place for travel inspiration!
🍀Happy St. Patrick’s Day! May the luck of the Irish be with you today and always 🍀 Check out my stories for a bazillion pictures of Ireland (sorry 🙈). It really is one of my favorite places ever. And hit my link up there for AALLL things Ireland! 🇮🇪
Happy Nyepi! We're wishing we were in Bali again this year to celebrate Balinese New Year's Eve with the Ogoh-ogohs. But I shudder to think how Silent Day would have gone now that the kids are a year older and louder. They belted out an ear-splitting rendition of Coco's "Remember Me" this morning that was probably loud enough to disturb Bali's quiet reflection all the way from our living room in DC.

Flashback to our 80+ Hour Road Trip to Alaska. It was a LONG, but rewarding drive, with views like this, mountains, glaciers, blue glacial waters, bears, moose, foxes and more! A trip we will definitely never forget. I’ve spent thousands of hours of my life road tripping (not exaggeration) so I’ve decided to impart all my road trip knowledge to you my friends! I’ve created some helpful tips that we use to plan our road trips. I’m even sharing my Road Trip Playlist. 💃🏻 Link on my bio! Check it out and be sure to enter the #EarthDayDriveAway#ad
So we MAY not be the most graceful ice skaters in the world! Anyone catch my stories from skating at @tenayalodge ? 😂🙈 I’ll pop a video in there again so you can see the extent of our talent. At least we had this gorgeous covered rink all to ourselves! The kids tried their hardest and I was really proud of their efforts and determination that they can do hard things! Something that I’m learning from them! Is there anything your family is just not good at?
I ❤️ exploring with these two! We contributed to a post for @goadventuretogether and @macs_explore on the top 25 National Parks for families, head to their page to read it and let us know your favorite park! We're headed to Acadia next, but it'll be hard to top our experience in the smokies especially since we saw the total eclipse there 😍 #bstampedtravels
We’ve been back in the cold for a couple weeks now, but we’re still dreaming about our road trip to California. Full video on my YouTube channel (linked in profile). #talkwordytravels

Bandelier National Monument is a favorite road trip stop families reviewing it on Trekaroo. The ladders and places to climb might just have something to do with it!! #Repost@everlong.journey ・・・
Exploring some cliff dwelling with shorter ladders. 😆 The main loop trail takes you past the Big Kiva, Tyuonyi, Talus House and Long House. Katie didn't remember coming here last year. When we walked past the Big Kiva and Tyuonyi still no memory of it. But, when she climbed up into one of the cliff dwellings looking down at the view, she said, "Oh yah, I remember now." Hehehe
