Astaxanthin is a member of the carotenoid family of plant pigments, occurring in nature primarily in ocean plant life
Like other carotenoids, astaxanthin has strong antoxidant activity, and research has shown anti-inflammatory, immune-regulating, antibacterial, and anticancer properties
Astaxanthin might support skin health by reducing fine lines and wrinkles and improving skin elasticity
Astaxanthin may inhibit the growth of Helicobacter pylori and reduce related gastric inflammation
Astaxanthin may help improve blood cholesterol regulation and protect against lipoprotein oxidation
Some research has found astaxanthin might protect the brain from age-related oxidative damage
Oh, and this is the stuff that makes flamingos pink and lobsters red!

The back of the eye (retina) is the ONLY place we could see blood vessels without cutting you open. And they are the same blood vessels you have in your body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you see the bleeding on the retina there? This patient had no health complaints, I saw the bleeding and checked his blood pressure.. blood pressure was 172/96.. patient sent to his family doc for high blood pressure medication. 🙁 #tohealistolove

Our bodies NEED Omegas!! And due to increased toxicity in fish based oils, getting your Omegas from a plant based source ensures better quality and health benefits!!🌱 What I learned from Debby Pool, MHN (M.S Holistic Nutrition) 👇🏻👇🏻 🌟 You get a purer, more sustainable source of Omega 3 being extracted directly from algae and not fish 🐟 🌟Fish oil has been proven to oxidize quickly and has a higher risk of being toxic. 🌟Omega 3 & 6 are considered “essential” because our body does not make them. They provide many health benefits and must come from the food we eat. Our brain 🧠 is 60% fat and needs healthy fats for proper brain development and function! 🌟Omega 5 has been shown to effectively combat cancer cells and reduce inflammation. Best source is pomegranate seeds. 🌟Omega 7- Richest source of Omega 7 is buckthorn oil. Health benefits: shiny hair, healthy nails, glowing skin, helps maintain healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels, helps maintain stomach acidity and ulcers, and helps dry skin and eyes!
🌟 Omega 9 health benefits are: lower cholesterol, strengthen immune system, reduce cancer risk, and risk of hardening arteries.
Juice Plus+ Omega blend is 100% plant based in a vegan capsule!🧡 #omegas#fullspectrum#vegan#plantbased#healthandhappiness#poweredbyplants#veganomegas#fruitsandvegetables#floodyourcells#hearthealth#skinhealth#eyehealth#brainhealth#themoreyouknow#loveyouwelltobeyouwell#heartdrivenempire#sharingiscaring#skipthefish#sustainable

Many people don’t know this, but I can be a big history junkie. I like visiting museums and learning about the unique backgrounds of the areas I travel to. So when visiting @upike_kyco in rural Kentucky, I couldn’t help but appreciate the history of the area.
Driving around, there are many buildings that were painted black, a tribute to the coal industry which had provided economic growth for the region for decades.
Though the coal industry isn’t as big as it used to be, it still contributes significantly to the communities and is one of the top contributors to the University of Pikeville.
I can’t wait to come back again soon!
Hit the open road and embark on a new adventure with clear sight.

It’s Lasik Week!! 🙌🏻 Lasik first became an option for vision correction in the 70’s when Svyatoslov N. Fyodorov, MD, saw a patient with injuries to his cornea caused by glass fragments. 😬
When the injury healed, the patients vision had actually improved! 👀
Please, don’t try this at home! 🙅🏼♀️
We have advanced, glass-free, blade-free, technology! 🤗
Join us this week as we answer your questions on Lasik!
Guess what? I’m about to put a few drops of this in my eyes.
It’s honey. 🍯 Yep. Honey. Here’s why. Lately my eyes have been itching, right at the outer corner. The left eye. There’s no swelling or redness, just bouts of extreme itching. It comes and goes. I can’t figure out for the life of me what’s causing it. I’ve practically rubbed my eyes outta my head. 👀😮
Then I remembered my Mother once telling me how my grandmother’s sister had cataracts and healed her eyes by putting drops of honey in them and sure enough her cataracts were gone. 🍯
Sooo, I did. A little research and was amazed to find how many people used honey as a natural cure for their cataracts.
It’s also used to bring relief to dry, itchy and irritated eyes. One remedy I read, was to mix equal amounts of honey with warm milk, dip cotton balls in the solution and use as a warm compress. That gave me some temporary relief. 😍Today I’ll try the actual drops and see how that does. Honey as amazing medicinal properties. So many I can’t list them all, however, here’s a few.
It’s a natural cough suppressant, heals wounds, heals ulcers, helps with depression, helps with the highs and lows of Diabetes blood sugar levels-helping to stabilize glucose levels, healthy for your gut, memory, reproductive processes/infertility and menopause issues and helps thyroid conditions. Taking a tablespoon or so before you go to bed can help you sleep better. 🛌 😴 🌷🐝🍯💕👩🏽🌾
Is it summer yet ? Wishful thinking... it’s unusually cold here in NorCal. But staying cool with Prada sunnies from @crestopt //
True story: I use to see a different optometrist. They gave me prescriptions I didn’t need to sold me frames I didn’t need. I walked around like I was in a fishbowl. The doctor assured me I just needed to get use to it. I later went to crest for a second opinion. Dr. Pham immediately told me they were far too strong for me and replaced my lenses for ones that fit my eye sight perfectly. Moral of the story is... not all optometrist are created the same! Find yourself at an eye doctor you can trust! #sunglasses#glasses#optometry#pradasunglasses#fashion#eyehealth

We're often asked, "How frequently should I have my eyes examined?" We recommend that everyone, not just people who wear glasses, should have their eyes regularly examined. For most people this will be once every two years.
If you have a certain medical condition this may need to be more frequent.
If you've noticed any changes to your vision or you have any concerns then certainly book an appointment for an examination and advise us.
If you need to book an appointment with us, you can book online, when it's convenient for you.

Back to School – Is an eye test on the checklist?⠀
With the new school term upon us, we all want the best for our children, including the best education to help them learn and develop. James Park, Optometrist at OPSM Silverdale is urging parents to be mindful of warning signs that may indicate your child is struggling to see clearly. Healthy eyes are critical to a child’s development and success at school, so if problems are not identified early on, it could lead to permanent damage or hinder their learning and affect behaviour and results.⠀
There are clear warning signs to look out for. “If your child squints often or tilts their head to read, then it would be worth investigating if there is an underlying eye problem,” said Optometrist James Park.⠀
Other signs to look for include:⠀
Holding books too close to their face⠀
Eyes that are watery⠀
Sensitivity to light⠀
Closing one eye to read or watch TV⠀
Poor visual tracking (ability to follow an object)⠀
Headaches during school or homework⠀
A lack of confidence while reading⠀
Along with allergies and asthma, eye disorders are the most common long-term health problems experienced by children. By taking some regular, straightforward steps, parents can ensure their children’s eye health is the best it can be.⠀
1. Visit the optometrist at least every two years. Children should have their eyes tested regularly to monitor eye health and ensure early detection of eye conditions such as myopia, which can affect a child’s learning ability.⠀
2. Ensure your child wears sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats in bright sunlight to protect the eyes from the impact of harmful UV rays, as eyes are more delicate than skin. Good quality sunglasses with 100 percent UVA protection are important.⠀
3. Eat nutritious food. Make sure your child is eating foods rich in antioxidants and the right vitamins and minerals. A diet that includes plenty of fruits, leafy greens and eggs will ensure your child receives nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin – essential for healthy eyes.⠀

Realizing that your entire 80’s wardrobe that you threw out years ago is now back in style… should’ve held onto those furry jackets, Wayfarers, scrunchies, and fanny packs!
Keeping up with fashion trends is hard. Booking an optometrist exam isn’t. A comprehensive eye exam is vital to preserving vision and our overall health. Find an optometrist near you.
This is a photo of a scleral lens over a cornea that underwent several RK surgeries many years ago. For many years this patient had no functional vision with this eye. Note
how wide the RK cuts are. Also note the blood vessels that have grown onto this cornea along the RK cuts. Last year we fit this eye with a computer designed scleral lens which is providing the patient with clear stable (20/40) vision with all day lens wearing comfort. It’s patients with eyes like this that keep me doing the work that I do.

Myopia Control. Myopia or nearsightedness occurs when the images that we see is focused by the lens of the eye in front of the retina-the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye- rather than on the retina. This causes the eye to elongate from the front to the back.
In other words, when a patient has nearsightedness or myopia, their eye can see near objects such as reading a book or a phone screen but has trouble focusing or cannot see objects that are further away. About 20% to 30% of the population is myopic and this number is steadily increasing. However, recently, many new treatments have emerged that could help slow the progression of myopia. One such treatment is Orthokeratology ("ortho-k"). Ortho-K are specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that gently that are worn overnight. These lenses gently reshape the cornea which allows you to see clearly the next morning when they are removed. Ortho-K lenses help with slowing down the progression of myopia over time.
This video by Dr. Allyson Tang explains how Ortho-k helps with slowing how the progression for nearsightedness. #nearsightedness#myopiacontrol#Orthokeratology("ortho-k") #eyedoctor#eyeexam#eyecare#DrAllysonTang#optometrist#Vaughan#eyehealth

Eat your dark leafy greens to preserve your eye health!
Lutein and zeaxanthin are fat soluble carotenoids which contain conjugated double bonds which allow compounds like lutein and zeaxanthin to stabilize free radicals and blunt oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress is a normal byproduct of human metabolism but excessive amounts in our cells causes tissue inflammation, atrophy, and premature aging.
Lutein has a high affinity for the peripheral retina while zeaxanthin has an affinity for macula and lens. These compounds accumulate in the macula lutea of the retina which gives the region its yellow color.
Our retina is susceptible to damage from blue light (daylight) and UV light. Lutein and zeaxanthin protect the macula and our eyes by serving as antioxidant “pools” to squelch free radicals and absorbs excess damaging blue and UV light. There rich antioxidant content also serves to improve visual acuity.
Higher intake of lutein and zeaxanthin rich foods is associated with lower incidence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in the elderly, as well as being cardio protective.
The mechanism of actions in the eye seem to be the inhibition of lipid peroxidation (rancification of fats) and it’s strong antioxidant capacity.
In the heart, lutein and zeaxanthin inhibit expression of endothelial adhesion molecules and inhibit migration of LDL-induced migration of monocytes to arterial walls.
Top sources of lutein and zeaxanthin include green leafy vegetables (best prepared steamed or sautéed for greatest bioavailability) as well as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and green peas.
Serving size for dark leafy greens above is per 1 cup cooked.
Change your cellphone screen to Amber/Orange! Many new phones have this option. Blue light is a big concern for our health. Many of us are staring at a blue light computer screen all day at work and then our phone and tablets too. Other than reducing the amount of time we spend looking at the screen, we can also wear Amber, copper, yellow or brown colored glasses with UV/UB protection or buy a screen cover with the same protection that blocks out the blue light. There are Apps now with screen filters...not sure if they have UV/UB protection though.
We can increase our intake of whole organic foods that are high in eyesight protective Beta-carotene, lutein and Zeaxanthin such as sweet potatoes, orange and yellow carrots, pumpkin, squash, blueberries, bilberries, beet greens, kale, spinach, mango, and other yellow, orange and dark green fruits and veggies along with the superfood Spirulina. Nutrex Hawaiian Spirulina powder is the best brand I have found. @hawaiianspirulina is very high in beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. It is rigorously tested for all toxins daily. Few superfood and supplement companies can claim and prove that as most outsource from China and India and many do NOT know where their sourced products are actually from...which is why I call supplement companies myself and ask about their sources and how they are grown/produced. I recommend you do this too. @hawaiianspirulina also has a new amazing supplement called EyeAstin with a combo of key ingredients designed to protect the eyes from excessive BLUE LIGHT EXPOSURE and helps improve eyesight and eye health. 👁 👁 👁

Repost ~ Follow my other page @naturedoctor_beautytips 🌳🌸💖 Work on your health daily so it becomes a healthy holistic lifestyle. Here are some pointers:
🌿 Get adequate sleep daily 7.5-8 hours. 💙Avoid blue light screens a few hours before bed as they hinder the production of melatonin in the brain that induces sleep and is a powerful antioxidant. Change your screen to amber or wear amber glasses and do not use Blue light LED lights in your home in the evening - use halogen or if LED they should be 2700-2900 lumens or under💙Drink adequate water - at least 8-10 glasses a day of glass bottled spring water or BERKEY filtered (the best filter after analyzing all) also RO purified water with added carbon filters or Distilled at home water - more on filters to come..also a shower filter is very beneficial. ☀️Get some sun each day 🍏🍒🌿Eat an organic whole foods diet with 10 -15 servings of fruits and veggies a day..mostly vegetables.
Cut out GMO FOODS and all refined sugar and all garbage toxic GMO processed, fast food, fried food, junk chemical ridden foods etc. EAT ORGANIC FOOD🌿 💪🏽Get some exercise daily - an hour walk - lift weights - yoga - dance - biking - hiking - boxing- martial arts - treadmill - surfing ...do what you love that makes you sweat.
🌺Stop using TOXIC chemical laden face, body products and cleaning products in the home to reduce the toxic burden on the body. If you cannot pronounce or do not recognize an ingredient look it up on Think Dirty database or EWG database websites.
Get protection from EMF/EL RADIATION with cover shields on phone, tablet, computer, protective blankets, clothing, covers for wifi, smart meters etc. Defender Shield @defendershield makes great products that actually are tested with meter reading. I have found that those little anti-EMF stickers and Tachyon etc do not block EMF from penetrating the body. If in doubt TEST IT with an EMF METER! I want to see the proof👀👁👀☄️Small changes make all the difference! Be healthy daily!
