This is a Psion Solid State Disk or SSD. They are memory cards for Psion's SIBO range of handheld computers, including the Series 3. Also, they are the inspiration for my protect, #TheLastPsion.
They come in a few different types: fast and expensive, battery-backed RAM; cheaper and slower Flash; and read-only ROM for pre-made apps. They have six pins: one earth/ground, three power and two for data to talk to a SIBO machine.
The protocol it uses is specific to SIBO machines, invented and patented by Psion. It's called the SIBO Serial Protocol, or SIBO-SP.
In one of the photos you'll see a RAM module with a yellow wire. That's connected to a point on the SSD's board that tells me which way information is going between the SSD and the SIBO machine.
There's a little-known fact about the Psion SSD. The port they plug into can handle more than just data storage. Yet no one has ever made anything that will take advantage of it.
So that's what I'm going to do.
Success with my second revision of the #ESP32 Pico. No purpose in mind but was my first time using new parts like the #Espressif Pico D4, tiny RGB led, wifi antenna. I managed to fit it all into the back of an AA size battery holder that is also rechargeable. Design files at:
