Before I go on, I want to say that the mask has its benefits. This type of training is "Inspiratory muscle training". Restricted air can make your diaphragm stronger and therefore lead to stronger inspiratory muscles. What a lot of these elevation mask companies falsely claim though is that it simulates "high altitude training", The mask does not simulate actual elevation training. What makes elevation training so special is the quality of air at altitude. Your muscles utilize OXYGEN to produce force. Let's say you are at sea level. The quality of air at sea level has 20% Oxygen,78% Nitrogen, 0.03% Carbon Dioxide. Even if you put the mask on, you are still breathing in 20% oxygen, 78% Nitrogen, 0.03% Carbon Dioxide. However, if you go to a higher elevation, now the oxygen is at 10%. Now your body adapta to this by making more red blood cells to carry more oxygen. This adaptation takes weeks to change; just putting a mask on which doesn't simulate actual high altitude in the first place for only 1hour training is not gonna do it. When you just put the mask on, it kind of similar to stuffing a pillow on your face. Your breathing in the same quality of air, just restrictive amounts of it. This just makes your body do forceful breathing, which is not effective for endurance athletes. It is better for athletes to breathe in sync with their movement and do more volumes of exercise without the mask.

It’s really hard to let your hair down when Zekey boy is constantly reminding you that ball is life. Cheers to many more beers to come with these two #elevationtraining
Hills pay the bills!
Ran three mountains today for my hilly, run workout. Swipe to see the view from all three! This was the most elevation I've gained in a run since July. 💪
📊The stats! 📊
8 miles total
2,116 feet of total elevation gain
1,896 feet of elevation gain in 2.5 miles
1 quick mile
Runstreak day 21
⛰The first mountain was new for me; a neighbor recently told me about it. I warmed up by running about a 1/2 mile to the trail. It was about 1 mile up, 1 mile down. The first half was a 19% incline and the second half was a 12% incline. •
⛰⛰The second mountain was the shortest, but steepest. I also saw a baby rattlesnake on this one; Ill put a pic in my story. This climb was a 25% incline for 1/3 of a mile. •
⛰⛰⛰The third mountain was actually the easiest of the three, but by the time I started climbing it, it felt like the hardest! 😂 This one was a 15% incline for 2/3 of a mile. This trail is really nice and gains most of its elevation in one section.
I had a 15:45 min/mile pace for the mountain section, then ran a quick mile, (6:20), as soon as I finished running down the last mountain. I cooled down with 2 miles at a 8:36 pace. This workout was very tough but very fun. All three trails to the mountains were within 1/2 mile of eachother. 🐾🐾

🔥Elevation Training Masks: Bane or Boon?🔥 - @fitness_walkthrough⠀
If you ever come across someone at the gym who looks like they just finished robbing a convenience store, fear not. It's likely just an elevation training mask.⠀⠀
Most people are at least marginally aware of the benefits of training at a high altitude where there is less oxygen in the air: Over time, your body adapts and increases its red blood cell count. Then, when you return to the oxygen-rich air at sea-level, you can perform at a higher level than you would normally.⠀⠀
These elevation training masks are often marketed as an easy means of reaping the benefits of elevation training without having to make a pilgrimage to the mountains of Colorado. Unfortunately, they fail in two key ways:⠀⠀
First, they don't actually reduce the levels of oxygen in the air, they just make it harder to breath the air that's already around you. Big difference!⠀⠀
And second, even if they DID reduce the oxygen levels, the duration is no where near where it would need to be for adaptations to actually occur. You need WEEKS of exposure to higher elevation. Not a mere 40 minute workout a few times per week.⠀⠀
The main thing you accomplish by wearing one of these masks(besides looking like a tool) is artificially capping your performance in the gym. You get a sub-par workout because you're so out of breath, and since the mask doesn't help boost red blood cell count, you don't get a super-compensation effect later when the mask is off.⠀⠀
So please, save the masks for your Halloween party so you can dress up like Bane and have an excuse to go shirtless.⠀⠀
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go train traps.⠀⠀

1780 Box jump challenge 24in 📆 Been putting this challenge off after dislocating a rib in bjj but not one to shy away I just waited until the last day and ate that pain for breakfast 😉 📆 After lying on the living room floor all night with a moaning baby, dislocating my fibula in bjj and on a 18 hour fast I probably had every excuse to not do this challenge today but I know if I didn’t I wouldn’t of slept tonight or been able to look at my weak face for a while, so put on my favourite JRE podcast @davidgoggins and grit my teeth for 1780 jumps 1:34’44 later job done #beuncommonamonguncommonpeople#gettingafterit#elevationtraining@tsfitnessliverpool@keiran_bailey_boxing@barb01_cl
Mountains are a great place for contemplation. I’ve always questioned if I’m doing the right thing, if I’m working in the right career, making the right choices... I’m happy to say that although I still question, I no longer say that I don’t know what I’m doing with my life. I know that no matter what direction I head in, I’m always going to love people and make them feel valued and cared for. That’s my mission, and that can be done anywhere, no matter your career. ❤️❤️❤️ #love#mountains#hike#hikema#hikenh#mtwachusett#spartan#ocr#elevationtraining#deepthoughts#lifeisgood
