Repost from @alistair.brownlee - Thank you Dun Laoghaire
Great to be on the race course after a big few months of training. The event, course, spectators and volunteers were all fantastic.
@ironmanireland#ironman703dunlaoghaire done and dusted 🥇•
Race day started out looking like pics 1 and 2. Next minute, pic 3 happened! 🤷🏻♀️ #irishweather
Swim 🏊🏼♀️: fog very quickly set in after just 180 of us (of 1,400+) had entered the water. Quite literally could not see any turning buoys, so they shortened the swim for everyone else 😖 an ok time in the end, given swam 2km, plus kept having to stop to work out where I was!
Bike 🚵🏻♀️: 1,400m climbing. Unique. Interesting. Hilly as. Scary descents. Fog that meant couldn’t see 50m in front. Only just managing to dodge a rogue sheep. Absolutely stunning! Have never raced on a course like it. Loved the climbs (when I could see them!). The downhills not so much! 2nd fastest ag bike 3:05:00.
Run 🏃🏻♀️: Loved it! Relatively flat(ish) with just a bit of headwind. Amazing on-course support from a great crowd. Surprised myself with a 70.3 run pb 🙌 Got a bit worried when went through the first 10km in 39:38 🙈Course was long by about 400m (well, according to Garmin), so I’m calling it 1:26:20.
Overall an epic day out! A hard challenging day, where my own magic word for the bike was ‘patience’. I knew it would be tough, and I definitely wimped out a lot on the descents!!! But aim was to stay safe 😁.
Now time for a holiday (training camp 😝) in the sunshine and hills of Girona ☀️☀️
📷 superstar hubby @lawrencecwest .
We did it! Swim reduced to 950m due to quick descending Irish fog, but the bike made up for it by being brutally hilly, so I am still calling myself a half Ironwoman. Thanks to @elp_emma and @becks889 for convincing me to sign up and mega congrats to Becks for winning our age group! #dunlaoghaire#mylegshurt
IRONMAN 70.3 DUN LAOGHAIRE 🇮🇪
🏃♂️ 21,44 km 1h56 5'26''/km
So a very interesting days racing @ironmantri@ironmanireland#dunlaoghaire703 . With perfect conditions set the pros and the first 180 AG athletes set out on the flat calm sea swim in #dublinbay . Within a minute mist came in and wiped out any visibility halting the race start for everyone else. Thankfully after nearly an hour we were able to get on with a reduced swim and probably my best I’ve had in any race. The bike course is known for being brutal and it didn’t disappoint. Some of the toughest climbing I’ve done and at times in less than 10m visibility followed by tough technical descents which I struggled with today with the crashes this year on my mind. Just over 3 hours was a bit disappointing and wish I’d known my visor flips the other way up as may have been able see a bit more 🤦🏼♂️ The last thing you want to greet you after that is a non-flat run course. So was pleased with holding my form and a 1.39 half marathon. With 10% of the field doing the full swim before the race was pause it was decided that the results would be split into 2 separate races. So 11th in my AG and with expected roll down slots I was hopeful of getting a place for New Zealand 70.3 World Champs next year but the organisers weren’t able to allocate slots today so now have a 48hour wait to see if I have 🤞🏻 There were a lot of people who registered their interested so not so confident now ☹️ Well done to fellow @manchestertriclub athletes @jamieplatt10 and Shaun Gilmour for solid performances today and both world champ hopefuls too
A massive thank you to @alexfoster_trifitcoaching for getting me ready and fit for the start line. I pretty much left it all out there coach and a good few learnings in the process. Time to start getting ready for @ironmanitaly in 4 weeks 😬
Isn’t it mad we have up to 60,000 thoughts a day 💭 Sundays are either super reflective or v hungover days 🤯 Some bad vibes got thrown in the mix but its just a kick of motivation in the right direction 💃🏼 new job, new house, new songs & new tings otw 💫 good thoughts, good week #goodvibesonly 🌈
Vale a pena conhecer. #irlanda#ireland#dalkey#dublin#travel#beautyplaces#dunlaoghaire#edublin#lobsterfestival
The town of Dún Laoghaire, which sprang up around it’s famous 200 year old harbour, has it all! For locals, and tourists alike there is so much to do in the town and the surrounding area. 🌊
Located just 12km outside Dublin City Centre, it only takes 20 minutes to get to the seaside town on the DART. 🚈
There’s over 220 shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs all within a mere ten minute walk of each other. Why not use one of town maps to explore Dún Laoghaire this weekend? 💁🏻♀️
