We’re thrilled to announce the 1983 Porsche 956 Group C, chassis no. 956-10, will be previewed at Monterey this week, ahead of its sale at our Porsche 70th Anniversary auction this October.
956-10 is a true time-warp example, and one of just nine privateer cars built by the factory to compete in the 1983 WEC. Debuted by legendary Fitzpatrick racing team at the 1983 24 Hour of Le Mans, the car took first place at the 1983 Can-Am Road America, making it the only 956 to win a race on American soil. The car remained highly competitive throughout the season, besting even the Works Rothmans team with an overall win at the 1000 km at Brands Hatch.
The car appeared at the 24 Hours of Le Mans once last time in 1984, after which it was acquired and campaigned by a private collector. Offered from 16 years of single ownership, and presented in its 1983 Le Mans livery, this is likely the most original example of the 956 in existence.
