MAN. I’ve said this before, but I’m coming from @kblumusic & @bkwildlife’s benefit show/clothing drive for the homeless at @theboweryelectric, which was a beautiful event, I wanna say again how thankful I am to be part of such a vibrant, varied, smoldering, dynamic, voltaic underground music scene in NYC. There’s trap rappers, party rappers, conscious rappers, rappers’ rappers (like the indomitable @mercthebigbodybenz ), all pushing and molding and warping and influencing each other, several different generations co-mingling, powerful women, soul music, freestylers, live beat makers, soul-singers, blues bands, strange, esoteric, mind-bending, genre-bending acts... I can’t even call it the underground hip-hop scene, because hip-hop is EATING rock & roll whole here and metabolizing into something entirely new. I’m jst floored... I’ve always romanticized great music scenes like the post 9/11 downtown rock scene, or the Roots centered Philly hip-hop/soulquarians scene of the late 90’s... but it jst occurred to me tonight that we’re in the center of our own such revolution. Man, NYC is cooking something beautiful. I jst want to shout out everyone pushing and creating in the community. I’m honored to take part. Here’s jst SOME of what went down last night, I regret not getting footage of @thatbex because her set was murder. And look out for the #blackgodpantheon, hoe.
The dictionary should display a picture of Stevie Wonder for the term "Musician". He's not only a singer/songwriter, but a masterful producer and instrumentalist. The way this man combines words with melody is therapeutic for the soul. It's ironic how a Blind man can help you See The Way through joy and pain. 😎🎹👑
