When I was little, I wrote letters to the stork to bring me a little sister. It took six years for the stork to bring her, and then my little brother came one year later. Life changed a lot soon after they came, our family vacations began happening without dad and eventually, he left and moved away. Mom had to then work and support 3 children and family photos were no longer a priority
When people ask me why I make pictures of families doing real life, I tell them because it's my way of healing. I make family photos unposed, unedited, real and raw. Because that's what family is to me. I make photos of families having fun and I love them just as much as I love the tantrums happening over eating a tomato. I make these photos because I see my siblings growing up in your kids. Through your family photos I heal
I've been challenged to share more of my photos, and I want to challenge you to take more photos, of all the moments, even the not so pretty ones
The Shepherds and Angels, Christmas Nativity Play, Polish Social Club, Loughborough, England | 1976. .
Documentary photographer Czesław Siegieda recorded life in a Polish community in England from 1970 to the 1980s. .
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.' Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favour rests.' When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 'Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.' So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

When @malcockphotog asked me to take photos of her and her kids I was so nervous...taking photos for another photographer is terrifying! Megan has been a mentor for me and I’ve been lucky enough to second shoot a few weddings with her this year so I was honoured to capture her do her thing as a mom. Check out my Instagram story to see her sweetest reaction to this photo of her and her little girl. This is exactly why I do what I do. ♥️
Real life doesn’t actually look like the carefully curated feeds we’re used to seeing on social media. Sometimes cocktail hour involves being smacked in the shins by a truck.
When the bruises and first hand memories of the early years fade away, these are the kinds of images that will make you feel something.
Perfect is boring, so why not embrace the chaos and crazy that peppers your family story.
Life looks better without a filter anyway.
