12/31/18 @ 730pm: [ #GSinSingapore Day 4] As I left the Buddhist Temple, an intense lightning & thunderstorm pounded Singapore for hours and I was worried my NYE plans were going to be washed away. But as they say, "after the rain, comes the Sun." And boy did it ever!
@nilsajsonia and I went to Singapore's Sentosa Island, where we walked along the sandy and palm-tree filled Palawan Beach (Pics 4-5), crossed a rickety but fun-to-jump-on😂 wood-and-rope suspension bridge (Pic 3), to get to the "Southernmost Point of Continental Asia," according to the sign (Pic 2), so that we could watch the final sunset of 2018. Definitely one of the most picturesque places I've been to and a fantastic place to visit and to reflect on the crazy, unexpected year that was my 2018 (more on that later). But watching the sun set here was surreal and really touching🌅🌴 #sunset#palmtrees

It is the last day of the 4-day Tamil Festival of Pongal. Guests on our Little India tour would have seen the colorful decorations and festivities. There are still beautiful clay pots like these on sale for anyone who wants to cook a last minute Pongal

how are you sleeping? 💤
⠀⠀ (7 to 9 hours per night, as recommended by the World Health Organisation?) ⠀⠀
Currently reading “Why We Sleep” by Berkeley neuroscientist and sleep researcher Matthew Walker, which, incidentally, I read when I can’t sleep. ⠀⠀
It’s a low-key terrifying read but that will only motivate you to try to sleep more - which I believe is Dr. Walker’s intent. Operating on a #sleepfuckingdeficit (not to be confused with a #caloriefuckingdeficit) can cause and exacerbate a myriad of health issues : Alzheimer’s. Diabetes. Obesity. Cancer. Poor mental health. Among many other things. (Like increased likelihood of getting into a car crash.) ⠀⠀
BUT, as Dr Walker assures us, there is hope. He presents sleep as a panacea - “It enhances your memory, makes you more attractive. It keeps you slim and lowers food cravings. It protects you from cancer and dementia. It wards off colds and flu. It lowers your risk of heart attacks and stroke, not to mention diabetes. You’ll even feel happier, less depressed, and less anxious. Are you interested?” ⠀⠀
Dr. Walker I literally could not be more interested. So I’ve been trying to implement some better sleeping habits into my nightly routine. ⠀⠀
My personal sleep time bad habit is texting my friends and family right before bed (the time difference is BRUTAL) and inevitably getting lost in the internet rabbit hole. Starts with a few texts, next thing I know it’s 1am and I’m googling “young Jude Law” and exchanging Ariana Grande memes with my mum. ⠀⠀
So here’s what I’ve been doing. I set an alarm 30 minutes before I want to go to bed and then I “hide” my phone from myself so I won’t be tempted to go nosing around for it if I wake up in the middle of the night. Then I curl up with a good book which gets me in the mood to snooze (unless it’s “Why We Sleep” which will just scare the living daylights out of ya). ⠀⠀
What’s your pre-bed routine? 😴
Nature gives us life. We cannot survive without her. Sometimes we forget that. 🌴
I’ve never experienced such a perfect blend of nature in a city until I visited Singapore. Somehow they’ve got it spot on 👌🏻
Gone are the days of sleeping in!!! It’s up and at ‘em at 5 am!! Anyone with me?!?!
I’ve never been one for mornings. In fact, I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to converse until coffee (at least a min of 2 cups) & it’s at least 10am -ish. Yet, I’ve been getting out of bed at 5am 😳. Not just being awake.... but getting out of bed. I think I’m still riding the jet lag wave. Or maybe I’m just turning into a super oldie, super quickly (if you hear me call Netflix ‘watching my stories’ it’s all down hill from there).
Either way, I’m using it to my advantage to be outside. The day time here is so hot and being out in the sun is uncomfortable & dangerous (no to skin cancer, por favor ☀️ 🙅🏽♀️).
Thus, I’m turning my love for being outside into getting up & getting out- mornings walks. Sometimes they start in the dark (the sun rises around 7am). While I still don’t talk to a single soul ☺️ I do smile at morning commuters (that’s the extent of my communication). Well, I do smile @ those who make eye contact with me. 👁 😁 & at doggos 🐶 (in hopes that I get to pet them).
This was my morning walk. Can you believe these are bars. They have a wicked 2 for 1 Happy Hour special. Which is big score bc alcohol prices are ridiculous $$$.
Victoria Concert Hall was built as a Town Hall with a theatre in 1862 but a memorial hall was added later on to commemorate the passing of Queen Victoria in 1901. So loving the colonial history of the building!
It started out quite friendly ... until she made a grab for the cash!💰
As you can see, I was not expecting the ambush.🤨
It’s was a photo booth at the #nationaldesigncentre. We were there shopping local designers.
I left with two new #destisainthandbags 👜😍
One of Desti Saint’s bags made it into #crazyrichasians 😮
They were a surprise gift from my client who was very happy with my work with her team. ☺️
I love them! Gals, check them out online, they are incredible. Guys, they would make a lady in your life very happy! 🙌

HELLO FROM SINGAPORE 🤓
- whilst we’ve been to Singapore a few times now, it was great to visit a couple of new things this time including seeing the Gardens by the Bay light up at night and OMG spending a full day at Universal Studios Singapore was magical. The Jurassic Park ride is our favourite! 🦖 🦕 #singaporehighlights

Finally have a chance to visit the merlion. Symbolic nature of Singapore.
12/31/18 @ 1145am: [ #GSinSingapore Day 4] I walked past the Buddha Tooth Relic Buddhist Temple & Museum everyday. The 5-storey temple towers over the rest of Chinatown and I could see it from my window. I knew it was a "must-see" but I thought it was going to be just another temple... OMG was I EVER wrong. Most ornate and gorgeous temple I've visited yet, and honestly, symmetry heaven😮😍. Perhaps I need to become Buddhist? Lol!
If it wasn't overkill, I would post these 8 pictures separately because each one is so gorgeous.
-The 1st picture is possibly mine and @nilsajsonia's FAV pic of my trip, looking up outside the Temple's entrance
-Pictures 2-5 are all symmetry porn from the 1st floor of the temple😍. So many Bodhisattvas, so much gold, so breathtaking
-Picture 6 is the 4th floor and the reason for this temple, the solid gold Sacred Buddha Tooth Relic Chamber & Stupa; encased behind glass. I took this shot before I was told no pictures allowed but believe me, this room was opulent beyong belief
-Pics 7-8 are of the 10,000 Buddhas Roof Pavillion, which houses the world's largest cloisonné Buddha Prayer Wheel, and you know I HAD to give it a few spins myself... hands down, most surprising place I visited in Singapore😍☸ #symmetryporn#epic
‘If the world could remain within a frame like a painting on the wall, I think we'd see the beauty then and stand staring in awe’
