Does it really matter the order in which you complete the OTF workout- starting on the treadmills (cardio) vs starting on the floor (strength)? The answer is yes, it does matter depending on what your goals are. If you want to lose weight:🏋️♀️ Do STRENGTH first.🏋️♂️
Resistance training builds muscle, and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest. Since your resting metabolic rate (resting heart rate) makes up the majority of your daily caloric burn, if your goal is weight loss, it makes sense to do that first. One study from the American College of Sports Medicine showed that 10 weeks of resistance training increased resting metabolic rate by 7% and reduced fat weight by almost 4 pounds. That said, the cardio portion is still important as the aerobic portion of your workout will always burn more calories minute for minute than the strength training portion will. If you want to go faster:🏃♂️ Do CARDIO first.🏃♀️
The same study as above found that exercisers who did cardio later in the workout, had a heart rate 12 beats per minute higher for the exact same workout intensity and duration as those who performed cardio first. In other words, the workout felt harder than it actually was. In another study, sports scientists from James Cook University in Australia reported that even a single strength training session may reduce the performance of endurance athletes (specifically runners and cyclists) for several days after. If you want to get stronger: 💪Do STRENGTH first.💪
This might seem obvious, but the science behind it is interesting. Lifting weights is very similar to sprinting, it involves short bursts of extreme effort and it requires that your muscles use an energy source other than oxygen to perform the exercise. Depending on your fitness level, your muscles (and heart) can only tolerate a set amount of anaerobic training before becoming fatigued. So if you’ve depleted your energy stores during the cardio portion of the workout, you won’t have as much left over to build strength.

✨Any who, I have learned a couple of things about almond milk that’s got me rethinking this whole #almondmilkforever thingie. ✨First off, not all almond milks are created equal. If you care about avoiding exposure to pesticides, you are gonna wanna go for a brand that’s organic in nature like @so_delicious ✨But, more concerning to me is the fact that almond trees are very water hungry plants. Seriously! It takes 5 liters of water to grow one almond. 🤯 #mindblown Did you know? ✨Recently over the years, I’ve become very aware of how food choices not only affect my health but also how my food choices impact the environment around us. And with the growing popularity of almond milk- it just doesn’t seem like a sustainable food choice that I want to keep making. ✨So on that note, what other “milks” are you guys drinking?
