Phu Tho Provence, Vietnam 03/01/19.
Day 2 in Phu Tho started with a visit to the Phu Tho Town College of Medicine, where @deakinmedicine and Phu Tho students got to meet, chat, and show us around their college. Never seen so many selfies in my life! We also attended the Phu Tho Town hospital, attached to the training college. After another amazing lunch with the students, teachers and clinicians, we visited Hung Vuong Private Hospital, the first private hospital in Phu Tho. Highlights included observing the blending of Western medicine with holistic, patient-valued traditions, and a very generous welcome involving singing, dancing, examples of cultural dress, and a somewhat epic Gala Dinner with the hospital staff, with all the food sourced from the hospital farm.
1. Students from Deakin Medicine & Phu Tho Medical College posing on steps of college
2. Students from both schools mingle in courtyard, getting to know each other
3. Visiting the clinical skills labs at Phu Tho Medical College
4. Phu Tho & Deakin students around the lunch table
5. Deakin students welcomed to Hung Vuong Private Hospital by staff (feat. Massive, beautiful bouquet I had to leave in Hanoi)
6. Students discuss local prescribing procedures in the Hung Vuong Hospital dispensary
7. Evidence of my doing my job 😉 Making one of many speeches this trip
8. Hospital staff introduce us to dance traditions during the offical welcome to the hospital
9. The start of an impressive spread during the Gala Dinner, all grown and made by the hospital.
10. The only porridge I’m happy to eat. Delicious savoury carbs at the end of the night.

Strawberry Jam - A Juxtaposition of Postmodern Life & Nostalgia
Upon originally hearing Strawberry Jam I often never took the substance of this album all that seriously. To me, it was just another fantastic pop record from one of my favorite groups. Strawberry Jam is of course so much more than that. It is about having to grow up and seeing life through a jaded mindset filled with anxiety's, depressions, and lack of curiosity no matter how successful we are. The central piece of this album comes in the song "For Reverend Green" when Avey roughly sings, "Red negativity in the street / Maybe it's the dirt, maybe it's the heat / A baby on a bus smiled at me so easy". Most adults have to go through the daily functions of society and can't appreciate what's around them, they sit there and try to blame it on something. While a baby can look at the exact same thing the adult is looking at and smile. This is not because the baby is oblivious to what's around them, it's because they haven't grown into the cynical and jaded mindset of the adult. Through their songwriting on SJ, AnCo contemplate why they can't enjoy life through the eyes of a child anymore and realize as an adult that we took our childhood for granted, those years of running free without having to always work just to live a stable lifestyle. SJ explores these themes and more while having an overall feeling of nostalgia, like a world where one can be carefree and stick their head in the clouds. A world full of wonder and innocence, playful nursery rhymes and dressing up as our favorite super hero. This nostalgic feeling is juxtaposed with the bands postmodern outlook on life. They no longer want to have to deal with all of their "adult shit", they want to go out, have fun, and smoke weed (their equivalent as an adult to playing with toys as a kid). Yet they still can't escape their own head. SJ represents the endless cycle of adults wanting to be children and vice versa. An inescapable universal truth, that we all have to grow up sometime. But when you put on this record, don't worry about all that. AnCo will make sure you forget about all of your worries. Just relax and play the music.

R E S I L I E N C E | Resilience is all about the process of challenging our traumatic experiences, adapting and growing from them. Resilience can be cultivated and strengthened.
Part of that process involves helping you realize the ways in which you are already resilient - reflecting upon your own personal strengths that you have called on to manage difficult or traumatic periods of your life 💪👏
