Bowie map...? Bowie map ! 🗺📍Dan and I decided to create this in order to be able to visualise David Bowie’s movements all around planet earth (because it’s simply impossible to have a clear picture in one’s mind, he just went so many places !). It would take a thousand pins to mark all the countries he’s been to, so we carefully selected a few relevant places instead. Absolutely thrilled with the result, it retraces bits of David’s story and helps us realise that when he said that it mattered to go out there and see the world, he meant it 😋
As you can imagine, the making of the map was great fun ! We sneaked into my college’s common room to steal pins (they weren’t using them anyways 👀) and found some more in the house. By the time we finished, we had used every single one of them.
It’s hard to show it to you guys properly because it’s such a big thing, but I hope these pictures will do (don’t hesitate to DM to ask for more precise views, the map’s still in my room). Europe’s very well represented, I’m actually sorry if this map sounds blatantly Eurocentric, we just happen to be from there and we’re (I think Dan would agree) not extraordinarily good at geography 😆
Take no offense if your country doesn’t have a Bowie pin, really, he probably still went there, there are Bowie spot ALL around ! I’d also like to clear the fact that what’s written on Los Angeles is a Bowie quote (given the years he spent there, that’s quite understandable, and I must admit, hilarious). Well, once again, thank you for all the good times Dan ! Doing some intense thinking and research to find places to pin down while listening to Bowie on shuffle was such a satisfying moment 😌 Everyone who’s walked past the map so far has stopped in an instant of fascination and looked at it in detail, so I guess we did some good work there. Bowie’s life was definitely the hell of a fantastic voyage ⚡️💛
In 1978, RCA decided to release an album to promoted Low and "Heroes". Bowie Now is a compilation of song from the firsts album of the Berlin Era. Mostly of the singles that had been released aren't part of it and only four instrumental ones were included, two of each albums.
The song list is V-2 Schneider, Always Crashing In The Same Car, Sons Of The Silent Age, Breaking Glass, Neukoln, Speed Of Life, Joe The Lion, What In The World, Blackout, Weeping Wall, Secret Life Of Arabia.
This year on the RSD, there was the release of a new remastered version which is the one I own. It is a white colored record. It also contain a picture of Bowie from that period.
Well, as you’ve probably seen on my story over the weekend, I’ve more than made up for a lack of Bowie time over the past few busy weeks! First there was a Bowie Day, then a Bowie sleepover, and now me and @bowiemianrhapsody have had the most fantastic Bowie weekend together! Every moment was full of Bowie themed fun - listening to music, dancing (if you can call our moves that), watching interviews and movies, vinyl hunting and chatting non stop about David. Being able to do that without any reservations or explanations is the most refreshing thing, and I can’t believe how fortunate I am to have found another Bowie fan who is not only just as enthusiastic and obsessed (and I use that word in the most positive, healthy way) as myself, but also shares a lot of the same views and values of Bowie’s work. For us both to see David as an inspiration, a comfort and a close friend, who seems so familiar despite the obvious distances between us, allows his presence to be just as strong as each other’s when we are together. And that’s what Bowie friendships do - keep him alive and well by a near indescribable passion for him and his work that only those who share that feeling can understand. It’s not through words that it can be conveyed, but through the ineffable feeling that’s almost tangible between you and someone else when you share that love for his voice.
Just as Janna put it so beautifully on her post about our day, Bowie friendships are uniquely special - whether in person or online - and if it’s possible for us to meet then there’s no reason that anyone else couldn’t or shouldn’t meet their online friends in person too, especially those in this Bowie community! 💛 I’ve seen a few other meet ups within this community being shared online and it never fails to warm my heart, because through Bowie we’ve become more of a family than anything. So if you’re still to meet your Bowie friend in person, don’t feel doubtful that it’ll happen, because Bowie has already given us all an online community, but experiences like last weekend are a sure testimony to the fact that he can give you the best possible friendships in person too. ⚡️
Today in 1977, David Bowie released his beloved 12th album, "Heroes". Of the three albums in the Berlin Trilogy (which starts with 'Low' and ends with 'Lodger'), it was the only one wholly recorded in Berlin. • What's your favorite Berlin album?
