Sorry, I couldn't stomach it 😰 Hill repeats got me today, need to clean that bike.
Fun fact, I am not training for a particular race, I just love the process! That feeling of being alive, smashin' the fresh air, feeling my lungs burning, my legs slowing down due to high levels of lactate... Coffee time? Nope, protein shake please! Happy Monday folks!
It was incredible to transition from the desert scenery to the wooded high country in New Mexico. My camp was about a mile from the New Mexico border. That morning was frigid. It took a couple miles for my toes and fingers to unthaw after a quick steep decent. All the while, I was surrounded by great tall pine trees that reminded me of Oregon. Not as dense, but none the less. Within about a mile of riding, I had reached the border. No border agents, no toll booth with bright lights and cameras. Just a sign and an open road to ride. As I came down from the elevation, the scenery changed again to the classic rolling hills. It continued on like that for miles. Miles of road to contemplate tons stuff. I get asked what I think about on these long rides and at first I wasn’t completely sure. That sounds kinda funny, but it’s true. Your mind goes so many places. One minute your thinking about the horrible climb your on, next your thinking about the weather, then a funny memory comes to light. You look back on what you’ve done in life, analyze the future and everything in between. It’s important to me to stay somewhat present and not get too far ahead in these thoughts. Somehow it doesn’t get boring. Your always excited for the next town and who you’ll meet and what you’ll see. As I lay in El Paso, I don’t have the same fears of setting off again as I did the first day. I’m actually kinda relieved and looking forward to hitting the road again this morning. But back to the story.....I stopped by a convenience store as a last stop before Silver City. I was 25miles away and knew there was a couple climbs before the top. At around 6:30pm, I had peddled to the top of the last hill and looked down upon Silver City, New Mexico. I wanted to save the town for tomorrow, so I camped outside of it on a hiking trail. I made camp and a large portion of rice and spam. Life was good ......................................................….................................................................... Currently, I’m on a 3000 mile bike trip from west to the East Coast. Follow along if you like. I try and post up once daily on the previous days mileage and happenings. Cheers!
