Samuel L. Jackson, Jazmine Sullivan, Jason Derulo To Star In Forthcoming Biopic~hotnewhiphop.com
Follow @booboodigital for more prime entertainment stories. The film will be centered around the life of record executive Neil Bogart.
Famed Casablanca Records founder and executive Neil Bogart is receiving his own biopic. His son, Tim Bogart, has been carefully constructing the film over the years, and the star-studded cast has been recently announced. Neil promoted and signed artists like Donna Summer, Curtis Mayfield, Joan Jett, George Clinton's Parliament, Kiss, the Isley Brothers, and the Village People. The record executive's life was filled with lavish, disco-era parties, but tragically that all came to an end when he died of cancer and lymphoma in 1982 at 39-years-old.
According to Deadline, these are a few notable members of the cast: Samuel L. Jackson as George Clinton, Kenan Thompson as Motown’s Berry Gordy, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Jay Pharoah plays WBLS radio DJ Frankie Crocker, D.L. Hughley as Parliament’s Bootsy Collins, Jazmine Sullivan as Gladys Knight, Neil Patrick Harris plays KISS co-manager Bill Aucoin, and a top young singer is about to be set to play Donna Summer. That last role still remains a mystery...for now. “My father was making $100 million a year at the height of Casablanca, but he quote-unquote ‘forgot’ to pay his taxes, and my inheritance amounted to three years at NYU, a Dodge Daytona and the rights to this story,” Tim said. “I was going to protect this with all I had.” Are you looking forward to this biopic? #samuelljackson#jazminesullivan#jasonderulo#biopic#neilbogart#casablancarecords#founderandexecutive#timbogart#donnasummer#curtismayfield#joanjett#georgeclinton
This @copperandwax pairing of rum x riddim is based on a visual association. W/ its minimal design and manuscript notations of release date and batch number, the label of the #Foursquare 2007 (and every Foursquare rum I’ve yet to come across) instantly communicates that you are about to sample a limited edition release; the distiller’s equivalent of what a test pressing or dub plate special represents to the music nerd. I don’t own any dub plates but I do have my fair share of white labels and limited pressings...which I flipped through ‘til this 10” on the Blood & Fire imprint clicked perfectly; a limited-run repress, individually stamped, curated with the connoisseur in mind.
The Spirit: Foursquare 2007 Cask Strength - Blood and fire are not bad starting points for these tasting notes. At 59% ABV, this cask strength rum is surprisingly smooth in spite of an intense heat--a gift of careful blending and 12 years mellowing in ex-Bourbon casks. The Bourbon profile is unmistakable, without dominating the subtle funk, oak and molasses notes of a great aged rum. An ice cube or splash of water (highly recommended at this proof!) opens up notes of orange and even maple-syrup-and-pancakes. The overall effect is as reminiscent of a fine cognac as a typical cane spirit and if you are already a bourbon or cognac drinker, this might be your gateway rum. Which perhaps is why it demanded this soundtrack:
The Selection: Junior Soul - “Super Love” / “Super Cool” - This is legendary reggae falsetto #JuniorMurvin (under his original recording name Junior Soul) covering Curtis Mayfield’s 1972 classic “Gimme Your Love” from the blaxploitation opus #Superfly . A haunting minor-keyed Caribbean excursion into the sub-genre of soul I personally think of as (pardon my dutty french) Ye Olde Pimp Shit, it sounds very much like strong rum aged in smooth Bourbon tastes. Best enjoyed from a snifter (or chalice) with a bit of swirling room and two fingers in the air (swipe left for sound).
PS Come join Double Barrel Rum Club this evening at 6:30p as we sample this and other fine rums from Foursquare and #Probitas at @misslilys 7A.
PPS the last shot is Micro Don’s portion.
i love the version on -curtis live-, this one from his '72 beat club appearance with lucky scott’s harmony vocal just wipes me out. positivity & uplift can feel like a nostalgic exercise, but world historical highness is a real thing. grateful for the feeling i get from his music.
