Tiny insignificant dots on the blank canvas of winter.
Have you ever been cross-country skiing?
On our first wander through the charming town of Äkäslompolo where we would be based during our time in Lapland, we quickly realised that this is an incredibly popular pastime and the expert Finns make it look oh so easy!
Locking into our skis and stepping onto the groomed trails we set off across the snowy wilderness, our technique a jumble of hesitant slides, awkward stumbles, flailing arms and hasty glances left and right to check no one was watching this utter butchering of such a graceful sport.
Wobbles aside, we found it’s actually a rather fun way to get around.
