It was an odd sight to see this webbed-footed bird just hanging out under a bush outside someone's condo while guys working on the roof just walked right on by. I had sworn I saw a duck in the same spot about a month prior, but it was gone before I could get close. But this time, he stayed in one spot and I got up close and realized it must have been this guy - a cormorant! Not sure how he ended up in our condo complex, but we sure hope he found his way back to water! We called Animal Control, wondering if he was disoriented if he'd been away from water for a while without any source of food, but they didn't call back til the next day and by then he was nowhere to be seen. Strange, but cool experience to see him up close!
Cormorants are such gnarly birds -
With vivid green eyes and a beak that says "I can take care of myself." Other birds tolerate their presence, but they still seem to cause a bit of tension. They are small little beasties. The babies are adorable, too... I have been busy with photo assignments lately and haven't had as much time to edit my birding photos. I have a loooot backed up for editing, though. Prepare yo selves... #cormorant#birds#birdsofinstagram#wildlifephotography#naturephotography#bayareabirds
