Repeat after me: Instagram isn’t a diary and I don’t HAVE to over-share.
I’ve sort of talked about this before — how taking a little break from social media, particularly Instagram, is good for the soul. Honestly, Instagram has only been stifling the creative process for me; I’ve felt like not only do I have to post new, meaningful content, but I also have to add an insightful, witty, attention-grabbing caption. That sort of thinking leads to burnout and resentment, and I don’t want either.
Your self-worth or success of your business doesn’t depend on you being present on social media. Instead it depends on you just being present and knowing when something is getting in the way of you doing your best work or being your best self. ✌🏼
I am taking an offhand flourishing class with masterpen @connie.chen . I’ve done some, but I really wanted to learn to thoroughly, the proper way. It’s not the lettering, it’s the bird and feather drawings you’ve seen. As you all probably know, (some of the modern books don’t display the proper grip and angle), it is done with a straight pen with the shades pulled upward at a 60 degree angle. This is what keeps it from looking stiff and stilted and keeps the lines delicate in the right places. It is also very hard to get used to, but a very fun challenge. This photo shows the angle needed and the unusual grip (my body would be facing the drawing in the photo. Connie asked us to do a baseline drawing. This is my baseline. She will critique and have it to compare to after the classes. I am looking forward to her critiques and the opportunity to improve this skill. I’ll post the after photo at the end of the classes and let you know how it went. I have a long way to go, but love to continue to learn.
It’s not only envelopes and place cards over here ☺️ I try to find new ways to practice my lettering while making something that I personally love. @spaceykacey is one of my favorite artists and her Golden Hour album is constantly on repeat for me. Slow Burn is my favorite track from that album and this lettered lyric print serves as a reminder for me to slow down and just be. 🦋

Keeping it simple since I’m at the lake cabin doing a furnace check. It’s warm and cozy, but with a few mysterious noises (I’m by myself). Just some practice and the letter N for the #flourishit challenge.
L & M for the #flourishit challenge today. Started doing 2 at a time so I can get other things done. I must admit I love a good M.

J & K for the #flourishit challenge. Playing catch up today.
You know that feeling when you thought you did something kind of scary but it turns out the scariest part hasn’t even happened yet? No? Welp, that’s basically me right now.
There are some exciting things happening IRL and in this crazy head of mine, and I’m TRYING to not let fear or self-doubt take the wheel. Always easier said than done.
There’s some quote out there about the risk being worth the reward. Whatever that quote is, I think it rings true; putting yourself out there, doing things outside your comfort zone, taking chances — it’s all worth it at the end of the day.
