I made this one for myself. My life has been thrown upside down in many ways of late. This is to remind myself that we grow through change and to be grateful of all experiences that come my way. I am grateful for all that I am and all that I have. 🙏🏻💖🙌🏻 #pheonixrisingfromtheashes

MONDAY MORNING INSPIRATION @auraorganicscosmetics Every time we meet Danielle in THE PINK SHOP she’s a bundle of enthusiastic energy. Her knowledge and passion for her company shines through and it’s been a pleasure to meet her.
WHEN: I launched Aura organics skincare in 2016 when I was 29. I had many different jobs before and spent a lot of time travelling, but I always knew I wanted to start my own business. BEFORE: My last job was working in sales for a high end skin care brand. I became really concerned with the ingredients they were using and this inspired me to create something more natural. I started off making things for friends and family and then it gradually gree into something bigger. PROS: The pro of having your own business is definitely the freedom. I’ve always been independent and struggle being told what to do, so not having to answer to anyone else is ideal for me. WHERE: I was a little lonely working from home so last year I got and office/workshop in a creative hub in hackney. It’s inspiring to work around other small businesses. INSPIRATION: My main inspiration comes from traveling. The different ingredients I’ve discovered around the world and a more organic basic way of living. I also love baths and have missed them when I’ve been a backpacker so I believe that everyone should take time to have a luxurious and relaxing bath at least once a week. ADVICE: My words of advice are...don’t get too stressed about the small stuff. Lot’s of things go wrong and you will make mistakes. No successful business was smooth running from the start.
Just don’t give up!! :) Danielle x

It’s that time of the year, where I down my other tools and pick up my most precious. For this is the season my life’s calling comes into its own - to raise awareness of the beauty in being an independent; being small💪🏻
I started our campaign last year #campaiagnshopsmall and I’ll be continuing for the rest of my career. I’ll spend my Christmas season making sure everyone understands the beauty, quality and uniqueness small businesses give us all. That the weeks in front of us, are the ‘make and break’ period of small businesses very existence. I’ll do my very best to get people to vote with their money. I’ll be asking everyone to pull their socks up and support ‘the independents’. It’s essential everyone takes it seriously - like not having plastic straws/bags, understanding the word feminism, what palm oil is, the battle of mental health - I believe that supporting small businesses, the independents, our small shops on the high street and the very backbone of our economy, is just as crucial as all these subjects.
So, if you’re reading this as a small business, please share this post with as many small businesses as you know including the new hashtag #campaignshopindependent and asking them to follow me. We’re going to be calling on us all, to campaign together. I need you. I’ve created exciting ways you can get involved and elements, that if we all get behind, we’ll get the press involved and the message properly amplified!
If you’re someone who loves small businesses, I equally ask you to share, as I’ll be highlighting some of the amazing businesses and what they produce in the hope it reminds you that you have the power in your hands. What if this Christmas - you only shopped small?
To kick this year’s campaign off - I asked the dear and bloody talented @rebecca_strickson_illustration if she’d do me the honour of creating a special piece of art to raise awareness. She was on board in a flash, as she herself believes wholeheartedly in raising awareness of ‘small’ and the power we can all have collectively to make this their best Christmas - ever! Please share away and help us - we need you.💪🏻 #campaignshopindependent#shopindependent#hollyandco

Love it or hate it, we all have a view📣. The top thoughts from everyone this Black Friday have been around these 4 areas, as summarised by a few comments:
1. ✨Thinking more than just a discount and being creative with your offerings - "Small businesses don’t have to do blanket discounts like Argos but can do a clearance on slow-selling lines, offer a gift with purchase or free postage and that can be just enough to encourage customers to shop small rather than big" Sam Burgess
2. ✨Charity & Doing what’s right for you this year, and that's okay to be different from last year - “Last year I donated a pound from each sale to Samaritans, a free gift with every order and I did free shipping. I felt really good about my stance. This year everything is slower and my overheads are higher, so I’ve discounted and I have had a lot of sales. Everyone is doing their best and discounting doesn’t feel like a choice for us at times” Black and Beech
3. ✨The divide between large and small businesses and what to expect from loyal customers - “I think we’ll see an even more distinct split between large global retailers and small independent businesses in the coming years. If small businesses brand themselves as honest and open with their trusted friends (their customers), they don't expect big discounts. It’s all about quality and customer service" Jane Toft
4. ✨Relationship & Trust - "It’s a relationship & trust thing for me. We guaranteed our customers back in October that we wouldn’t be doing any Black Friday discounts. They have repaid us by ordering early which helps so much with planning and cash flow." Snapdragon Studio
The more I think about it, if Black Friday had just kept to the single day, there might be space for it. But the overwhelming damage it does to mindsets, buying habits, small businesses and the delay it causes to 🌲Christmas trade through November - I hope it becomes something from the past. In the meantime - Small is the New Black (Friday)! 🙏💪🏻 #votewithyourmoney#campaignshopindependent#hollyandco#smallbusiness#blackfriday#shopsmall#supportindependents#money

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you're all wrapped up on this gloomy day. I wanted to take a moment to tell you a little more about the geniuses behind the ‘Shop Independent’ artwork 🎨 I’ll be posting over the next month. We kicked off the campaign with our lead creative last Sunday- which has now gloriously gone viral - eeekkk!
I wanted to introduce you to the first of our ‘Independent Campaigners’ - Rebecca Strickson. I first came across her incredible work, when I popped into @wbtclondon. For those who haven't been, I highly recommend a visit this Christmas, it's the cool modern-day London souvenir shop, on Carnaby Street created by Alice Mayor.
I then saw all her beautiful illustrations being shared for 'Repeal' and then again for the last Labour Party general election campaign with a piece called 'For the Many'. I knew that Rebecca HAD HAD to create something for small businesses! I asked and she SO kindly and quickly said YES! Considering she's undergone surgery at the same time... what a hero! 🙌🏻 Rebecca Strickson is an illustrator, artist and do-er of things, based in Peckham she works mostly in illustration, combining an intricate hand-rendered aesthetic with an equally detailed choice of subject.
She's created work for clients such as Sony, Channel 4, Columbia Records, Agent Provocateur, Soho House Group, Department of Transport and Royal Mail - where she designed the first Royal Mail stamps of 2017 for the incredible ancient history collection. "I'm a staunch believer in the power to 'overcome' when we work together on the issues that matter. And when we do, we don't just work side by side, we achieve more, we create power and hold power to account." 💪🏻Feel free to share her artwork in whichever way you like as Rebecca has kindly donated her image to the campaign, I just ask you tag and credit her @rebecca_strickson_illustration, me @hollytucker and the campaign #campaignshopindependent when you do.
Watch this space as we'll be releasing the next sharable 'Shop Independent' artwork tomorrow by one of our 'Independent Campaigners'. Until then, keep supporting the Independents everyone!

As a small independent business, we’re feeling the pressure to post about shopping small at Christmas. If you’ve been into our store or have been following us for a while I hope you’ll already know our views on this 〰️
We believe it’s so incredibly important to be mindful of where you chose to spend your money, to #shopindependent and to support small businesses all year round - if you want them to stick around. We’re not really doing anything different this Christmas to what we do at any other time of the year, and as we value our products and pay each of our makers fairly, you can rest assured that anything you do buy from us won’t be on sale in January. We also won’t be offering any ridiculous discounts or incentives to buy things you don’t need this Friday ▪️
We hope you’ll visit us because you believe in what we are doing and wish to support us so that we can keep going and keep supporting our independent makers, and also because you love our selection of products and makers as much as we do 🙌🏼
