personal history time ~ my grandparents got married in this cathedral!💏💐 I think family history is crucial to establishing your own sense of place and identity in a rapidly changing world. I love being able to speak to my grandparents are their friends about their experiences. Oral history is frequently bashed by academics as an unreliable and unscientific method of creating historical narratives and finding truth. Although we have to allow for faults in memory and personal trauma, oral testimonies allow us to experience the past in greater depth than statistics and reports. Human experience is unquantifiable in this way, a trend explored by the early social historians of the E.P. Thompson era (around the 1960s). History, according to Thompson, has been controlled by elites and written for these elites to consume. The “losers” and forgotten minority groups truly shine in oral history. Anyway tangent over... this is a fab piece of architecture housing a lovely museum on the Gloucestershire Regiment during both world wars.⛪️ #rantcentralstation#history#bristol#heritage#familyhistory#genealogy#urbanlandscapes

Bologna University founded 1088 = the oldest university in continuous operation😯📚✒️ Bologna was one of the first universities where students dictated the direction of their studies. Pupils used student strikes to challenge the content of courses and to change the pay received by professors. Professors could also be fined if they did not finish their classes in time or if they could not complete their course material on time!🧮📏📐🔎📝 Part of me wishes Bristol students had this kind of power to deal with modern day issues, such as the growing mental health epidemic at the university. #mentalhealth#university#bristol#booklearning#geteducated#students#unayy#history#facts#museums#bologna#italy#travel#architecture#heritage
