Happy Monday friends! Two things I want to share with ya …⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I. Brand patterns like this give me @potterybarn or @anthropologie vibes ✨ Created for LiveMadWell @starkmad - 3 lines - one for fitness, one for wellness, and one for style!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And for once, I feel like I actually have all the things planned to celebrate 🥂Dinner with my LA baes on Wednesday (my actual birthday), Thursday my fam flies in to spend the weekend with me, Friday going to see my birthday twin @spaceykacey in concert with my sister, and Saturday & Sunday chillin’ with the fam! Truly all I could want for my birthday is time with friends & fam so I’m STOKED! 🙌🏼 Hope you all have a lovely week!

I’m 26 — and I caught myself saying “what the kids are doing” 🤦🏼♀️ Listening to @garyvee yesterday was enough of a kick in the pants to start a @tiktok account for my biz 📲
spent last night cruising through the platform, uploading travel and design videos and here’s what I’ve deduced:
1️⃣ BARELY any businesses are on it, which means the “algorithm” isn’t as pertinent
2️⃣ the #entrepreneur hashtag is ALL MEN, especially the cringe-y Lamborghini moneybags types. Yikes **time to take up some of that real estate
3️⃣ Music is everything. TikTok used to be called Musical.ly, a lip syncing/music video type app. For me, that means branding myself with sound — something I haven’t done before, but the more I play with TikTok I realize that music plays a big role in my creative process and inspiration!
I thought it was probs time for me to introduce myself around here! I don’t think I ever have, which is crazy!
I’m Erika— mom of 4 and lover of all things branding.
I’ve been building websites and branding for over 8 years now, and love working with clients to create brands that feel like an extension of them! My favorite color right now is rust, but ask me tomorrow and it’ll probably change. #designerprobs
I love to laugh at my own jokes, and eat chocolate chip cookies (just ate 3. Whoops!)
Now it’s your turn! What is something I should know about you?
Hey you! Remember me?
It's been a while since I last posted here on the gram - not 2 weeks kind of a while, but more like 1.5 years! A lot has happened in the past 16 months: I've been juggling my brand new business with a new nomadic lifestyle.
One would think that starting a business is challenging enough (and I did!), but I got it on the road with me the very first month. Not exactly how I've envisioned it when I launched, but I am so grateful for this experience. Over the past year, I've learned and grown immensely.
Being able to travel any time and anywhere while still getting an income is a dream come true, but taking a brand new business on the road from it's very beginning wasn't easy. Keeping clients happy and myself sane and healthy while living a nomadic lifestyle can be tricky sometimes.
Here are a few things that I've learned and made it a whole lot easier:
- Being upfront and clear about my lifestyle with my clients. I was surprised (in a very good way!), at how supportive and understanding my clients were.
- Always allowing myself a little wiggle room when setting project deadlines. Life on the road can be unpredictable, jetlags can hit harder than anticipated and missing a deadline is a no go!
- Defining my 80/20, not just for income but also for productivity. Not wasting time with the unnecessary 80% freed up so much time and energy!
- Getting insanely organised. I found my sweet spot with a combination of Asana and notebooks. I've streamlined most aspects of my business and I plan all my projects and milestones ahead.
Do you have any questions about how I handle a nomadic lifestyle while running a business? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to answer them!

Not every project calls for custom illustrations, but these icons play a huge role in the charm + character of @bannerdaysf By crafting individual marks, we were able to distribute them randomly throughout the site and her print materials forming the appearance of continued pattern. We think they look pretty cute on their own, though, too. 🎨
Typography is an inevitable part of creating designs. Though from the looks of it you might think that it is just about arranging fonts, but trust me, there is a lot more to it.
Here are 5 typography mistakes to avoid.

YOUR BUSINESS ONLY HAS 3 SECONDS TO MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION.
Whether you admit it or not, you represent you AND your business well with good design. You have to keep capturing good impression in those 3 precious seconds because people will only take a moment longer to get to know you if they like what they saw.
Visual culture real as ever.
