Review: The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5
“Brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means you go on even though you're scared.”
This book is important. Angie Thomas beautifully portrays the balance of anger and hope in the face of racial injustice. It is a story of loss, love, injustice, community and activism inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement. ⠀⠀ Although I feel this book is written for the YA audience, I soon got used to the style and the tone and was completely submerged in the story. I think it is a key read for everyone, regardless of age, and would highly recommend to any young adult. I gave this book 4.5 stars simply for its YA writing style.
Bonjouuur everyone, happy Friday! Well, week 1 of IG detox went alright 🦄 Shall I do a recap? I wrote 2 articles that I'm planning on submitting to a few platforms, 6,000 words for my WIPs, spent 2 days translating from cafés in Manchester and am on my way to London for an interview. Excited to be a Londoner for the day! I also revamped my website & finished reading a book that I started... last year 😂. Also, and this is probably the most important element of my week: I went floating for the first time on Wednesday! It was the most eye-opening experience EVER. Basically, you spend an hour in a floating tank with water and Epsom salt, which is deeply meditative and soothing - the fact that the experience is sense deprivatory makes you completely let go of any form of control, physical or mental. I've emerged out of there anxiety-free & refreshed! See, I'm often driven by a wrong sense of urgency, driven itself by my fear of not realizing my potential (which is a pretty common fear these days...) but floating, in just an hour, taught me what mindfulness TRULY feels like. What it's like to just be present, here and okay about it...I realize that I didn't practice it at all until now 😂. Even though I've missed you all & caved in once or twice to see what you had to share in your stories, I stood my ground because I really wanted to see what happens when I stepped outside of IG for a bit. And I must say that the mental clarity I've gained out of taking a break was worth it! I already feel grounded and focused again :) But what about you, though? Feeling the full moon much? What's the highlight of your week? Please share with me in the comments, I'm looking forward to reading them 😊🧚💖 #bibliophile#bookaddict#bookcommunity#bookwormlife#bookwormsunite#igreads#positivelifestyle#positiveattitude#personalgrowth#positivevibesonly#positiveliving#writersofig#writingcommunity#welovebooks#readingismagic#positivevibes#booksbooksbooks#higerself
This read surprised me in the best possible way and I’m giving it 5/5 ⭐️ I wasn’t too sure what the expect when I picked it up but I loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula so was intrigued when I saw this.
It’s a story about the birth of Dracula, the man, the myth, the monster, and also about Stoker. We meet Stoker as a sickly young boy and see who he grew to become and how his path crossed with Dracula’s and with vampires. This book is a bit fantastical based simply on the subject matter, or perhaps not, depending on your beliefs I suppose. Regardless, if you liked Stoker’s book you will also enjoy this one as it is written in much the same way. Very interesting and well written!
Books, burgers & best friends 🍔🍟
Growing up, I couldn’t wait to get my driver’s license so I could go to the McDonald’s Drive-Thru whenever I wanted! Since then, I’ve had many late night trips to get a tasty treat! Now, you’ll get that I’ll be going there even more often since the new Grand Big Mac with bacon is now available! I had it last Sunday, and it was so so tasty 🤤
What do you think? Is a Big Mac still a Big Mac with Bacon? I think it’s #StillABigMac for sure 😻
