I really loved this book and cannot wait to read the next one!
Mr. Finchley is a delightful man we meet right before his first "vacation". He has made plans and while waiting to catch his train, gets misdirected on a different kind of vacation. He quickly embraces his new journey and, on his way, meets and befriends a colorful array of characters and experiences. He discovers the happiness that can be found through spontaneity and chance.
Two "new" books since the last time I shared some on here for the #nightwormschallenge ! Excited for a new creature feature as well as some throwback Point Horror!

The Hunting Party is about a group of old friends and new ones, going to a recluse residence in the Scottish highlands to tide in the New Year in rural style. They’re expecting this to be like all their other New Year gatherings, when in actuality, it is going to be the trip that changes their lives forever. A history full of secrets and ill feeling comes to light, and ultimately, leads to a murder that puts suspicion on everyone and everything. .
I’ll come right out and say I enjoyed this book, but I found it missed the mark with some elements. This is your typical murder mystery with a handful of potential suspects with mounting motives, that keeps the reader reeled in until the end, and is then left with trying to figure out how to feel about the read.
The story’s timeline altered between "before" and "after" the murder mystery, and was narrated through at least 5 perspectives. Once I was able to finally get my head around who was who (honestly, I have no idea how I found this such a challenge, since the characters were so different), I liked these alternating perspectives. The characters were all different in personality, and through their personal narrations, it immerses the reader into their complex situations and behaviour. The characters were tolerable, but they weren’t largely likeable. .
Sadly, I was disappointed as I found the climax underwhelming. I wish it had been expanded or explored more, rather than solely this: “big unexpected hero moment with no explanation of what went down because the screen fades to black... Epilogue.”
I like books that give the big moment the central stage moment the book has worked toward, which I felt #TheHuntingParty didn’t do. .
My favourite thing about the book was its atmospherical setting as it complimented the plot. I read the book within 3 days and I’ve decided to rate this 3.5 stars, due to the issues outlined above but also because the story is entertaining. It's the kind of book you can snuggle up with on a cold day or night, and you'll be itching to find out what's going on. I would recommend it to those who like your standard murder mysteries 😊
Thank you to the tagged publishers for all these #freebooks - I am continuously grateful to be a reader in this space. I am especially excited to read Only Ever Her by @marybethwhalen - it sounds SO GOOD!
It’s Holy Week, and also, 3 days before Easter and I haven’t gotten anything for my boys’ Easter baskets 🙈. I am such a last minute person, and even with the best intentions I can never seem to shake that off. It’s something I’d love to change about myself - to think ahead would be a great gift to myself and the people around me. Sigh. Anyone else out there not great at planning ahead? Tell me I’m not alone. Or if you’re a reformed forgetful-last-minuter, share your secrets with me!
I have a fun tradition of reading my favorite books during stressful times. I mean, who can worry about their dumpster fire life filled with mismatching eyebrows when Elizabeth is destroying Darcy’s love in the best rejection speech ever penned?
I say all this because this week has been no bueno. So I turned to the Queen of chaos, Bernadette to make it all better.
Bernadette is my snarky brilliant hero. Through a series of hilarious misunderstandings, she disappears to escape involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. I know this sounds rather serious, but it’s a hoot.
If you haven’t read this yet, lucky you. You get to experience the giggle-inducing mishaps for the first time. My second time around I listened to the audiobook and it was PERFECTION.
Audrey and Soo-Lin’s cheery delusions were meant to be heard.
What’s your go to stress read?
It’s not the world that’s cruel. It’s the people in it.
-The Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
Did I decide to post this photo today solely because NEIL JOSTEN (and his ability to totally derail my life and tbr pile and everything in 0.5s?). Very likely. 😂 I started my reread of The Foxhole Court with my fellow Foxes yesterday (I'm the Nicky of the group and SO. DAMN. PROUD! 😂🙌🧡) and I'm living for it! 😍 Just being back among these amazing characters is lifting my moods immensely, my skin is clear and my grades are great. No, jk, the last two were a lie. 😂 But it is true that this trilogy has my heart and I'm unable to discuss anything else but that atm (cue to me and @kayakit discussing the Foxes for literally two hours straight today. 🤣👏 Straight. 😏😂). My dear friends, get ready. 😂 I'm reading TFC again. 🤷♀️😂
QOTD1: Do you ever read sports fiction? 🤗 (Using that term loosely 😂)
QOTD2: Help me sort Foxes into Hogwarts Houses! 😍🧡🦊

Mitä sulla on suunnitelmissa lukea pääsiäisenä? Nauttikaa! 😘 * Arvostelukappale kustantajalta

QOTD: What’s your favorite magical creature?
[🇮🇹 Qual è la vostra creatura magica preferita?]
I love Phoenixes and their ability to reborn from their ashes, but the Niffler is sooo cute 😍.
🇮🇹 Io amo le Fenici e la loro abilità di rinascere dalle proprie ceneri, ma lo Snaso è troooppo tenero 😍.

I know I haven’t posted a review in FOREVER. I’ve been finding myself so exhausted lately that as soon as the toddler’s in bed, I conk out too! And night time is supposed to be my reading time 🤦♀️ … oh well, the long weekend is coming up so I’m sure I’ll be able to knock a few out in the coming days 😊
And to help with this, I’ve recently received some fantastic bookmail! I won Shauna’s Great Expectations and Cape May, and I received Star Crossed in my latest @cr8ive.inspir8ions Indulgence book box, and the others were sent by the publisher. Thanks to the tagged publishers for those ones.
Since @simonschusterau sent me a GORGEOUS copy of The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra CLare, I decided to finally dive into the Cassandra Clare shadow hunter world. So I’m currently reading City of Bones (which was the only Cassandra Clare I did actually read a long time ago, but I don’t remember much of it). I know The Red Scrolls of Magic is a different series within the same world, and I don’t have to start from the beginning, but I’m a traditionalist and I love to read things from the same world in the order that they’re published. I guess part of me wants to make sure I have all the information. Is this just me? Or are you happy to read a book/series as a standalone even if they’re “connected” to other books?
Oh and let me know if you’ve read any of the ones in my stack!
