Estive acompanhado do Procurador Municipal, Dr. Francisco Vieira.

I had a fantastic birthday weekend visiting my family, and I have the day off to relax and take care of babies. Any particular animals you’d like to see? 🐺🐀🐍🦎🦂🕷🐜🦋❔

My Suriname red-tail boa. And as promised: My opinion on getting a pet snake, how to start? Welp, research as much as you can in your free time. You have to be really sure you want it. These animals don’t just live for a year or 5, most are over 15-30 years. That’s more than a dog but much less of the responsibility. Snakes are more like fish keeping, most of it is for show. You do cage maintenance when they do their business and once it’s been a while. You should check out articles about getting beginner pet snakes or getting into snake keeping. A lot of these articles are found by a simple google search, they will provide great beginner species to select from, their morphs and color forms if you are interested as well. Many snakes are built differently. You have some that are longer and more lean like corn snakes and king snakes which are GREAT beginners due to them being genuinely laid back and easy to keep species. Ball pythons can do well with proper husbandry but they can be notorious for going off food for months, this is natural and it’s sort of a hibernation to them. As long as their weight is normal over the course of the months then it is ok. Stuff like that can get a new keeper very worried. Be aware of how snakes go in shed and how they prefer to hide and be left alone at that time, they may show a little attitude because they feel vulnerable. Let them have their peace and work with them after they’ve shed. You may have heard debates on substrate and feeding but if the husbandry and the snake are kept well.. there won’t be any problems.
So. Do your research on the animals you plan to get. Read their care-sheets and requirements and follow them. They are living breathing animals with feelings, they’re not toys. Respect their needs. They are some of the most interesting pets to observe and are very rewarding to keep. Will they love you like a dog or ahem.. cat would? No. Could they trust you and know you’re not a threat? Yes. They all have individual personalities.
The debate on feeding inside or outside? Continued in comments.
