Dropped by the Baguio Public Market for fruits. How h-u-g-e are these Mountain Trail Strawberries?! Hit and miss though, some are good and some are not. Anyway, was able to finish half a kilo while strolling around the area. It is said that strawberries were introduced to Benguet as early as the 19th century, and farming was continued during the American Occupation. In the 1980's, new varieties from Japan were introduced. La Trinidad, the capital of Benguet, held the very first Strawberry Festival in 1981 which cemented its reputation as the primary source of the fruit. A total of 74 hectares is devoted to it in the towns of Mankayan, Atok, Tublay, Tuba, and Buguias. The Benguet State University assists in the development of these farms. 🍓
I am intrigued with the texture and shape of the hills by this newly carved road in Tublay on the way to Kapangan. I had to take a photo, although quick and without consideration for a better lighting.
