Who ever said people don’t or can’t change are completely WRONG, period... Some don’t understand how I could be the me I am now now. Yes I’ve not only changed, I’m a different person, how? It’s just I’ve learned so much about the world, and the people in it, and how everything and everyone evolves. When either they or you get hurt, or hurt each other? And let me tell you the power struggle, its very real for some, they just need it, and it’s completely unrealistic, and unnecessary and can get very scary. Sometimes picking your battles is so key in your journey to freedom and happiness and you can’t put a price on that. Sometimes you just have to let them win, and then they get to swim in the chaos they’ve created for themselves. It’s not about getting even, or being right, it’s about forgiveness, and getting YOUR heart right.

Day 19 of #authorschallenge2019 Advice for Writer’s Block: this is going to sound counterintuitive but write. That is my advice.
The more you write the more ideas you get.
When I was holding myself to a 5,000 word a day minimum before I got my new job I was a well of ideas.
Even now where I fit writing in when I can if I get blocked I write.
If you have to pound out 500 words of utter BS just to get into the flow again, do it. You can always fix it in editing.
“The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield is a must read for all writers and goes far more in-depth with this phenomenon.
But seriously, just write. Those who pay homage to The Muse are always rewarded.
Write on. 🖊 ❤️

“A mother’s heart is always with her children.” 💕🌷💕🌷
If every picture tells a story, this one reveals a book. All because of love. 💕🌷💕🌷💕
My favorite Spring coat/ dress was a gift from my mother. Our shopping excursion was like a fairy tale. Every time I wear it, I’m doing so in memory of mother-daughter bonds. Mine with her, along with memories of my two daughters. This coat holds cherished memories like a wedding ring worn for decades. 💕🌷💕🌷

Anger is a hard emotion, it can get quite explosive, if you use it be prepared to harness it and use it wisely, and only when needed, it has its season, but it better be for a good reason. If high blood pressure and stress, the #1 killer, isn’t enough to deter you than other people’s feeling surely won’t move you. So when the emotion anger takes hold, just don’t let it turn you into an ass hole.
Every disappointment and accomplishment.
That brought us together in the end.

books don't lie.
I love the Elena Ferrante quote, "none of it happened and all of it's true," and that's what I stick to for my own writing. But, Lie With Me by Philippe Besson is as autobiographical as it is deeply emotionally true. It's the story of Besson's first love as a teenager in rural France. It's lightly paced and a quick read, but so emotionally vivid that it throws you into Besson's experience along with him. If you like James Salter's A Sport and a Pastime or André Aciman's Call Me By Your Name, you'll love this one. As a member of team B in LGBT, I love working in an industry that has had a strong queer presence for centuries, and I'm always excited to discover more, especially in translation like this one. Watch out for it to hit shelves on April 30th! Thank you @scribnerbooks for sending it to me!
Maps! 🗺 I draw maps for all of my worlds, but only my westerns have ended up with a classic map page in the finished copies.
Contagion has a world chart, which lists out the various star systems and planets, and sort of acts like a map for the reader. It was a really clever solution when my publisher decided a more classic map wouldn’t be possible. And Taken? It was ultimately decided that those books didn’t need maps. But perhaps one day I can show you the sketches I made! 🗺
Several things dictate whether a book will have a map...
🗺 Genre— Let’s face it, maps are most popular in fantasy. A fantasy world is completely foreign and a map can be a majorly helpful resource for the reader. ⠀⠀
🗺 Budget— Even when the author has done an initial sketch, including a map in a finished book means creating new art. The publisher needs to hire an illustrator (or use a designer in-house) to design and revise the map—which takes time and money. Sometimes, the budget simply doesn’t allow for this extra feature.
🗺 World— For a complex world, publishers may decide to include a map regardless of genre. My westerns are historical, but Vengeance Road ended up with maps to show what a familiar area (Arizona) looked like during the time the book was set (1877), and because the main character covers a lot of ground on said map during the course of the book. Retribution Rails got an updated map to show how the world had changed in just ten short years. I’ve even read contemporaries with maps before—namely ones that show the layout of a real or fictional town.
As a reader, I adore maps. They make a world feel more real, and I love flipping back to the map when new locations are referenced. 🗺
There are so many gorgeous book maps out there. Do you have a favorite? Tell me about it in the comments! 🗺

guess what I’m working on this weekend! Tidying up this baby... I forgot just how long it is, for a short story. Also I’ve not even looked at it since 2011 and never edited it so... this is fun. By which I mean, SUPER WEIRD. The weirdest thing is definitely how easy it is to get right back into Elle’s POV to work on this though - it’s kind of like coming home to her, Lee and Noah! •
PS. UK & Commonwealth fans, remember you can pre-order The Beach House NOW (link in bio) - and everyone else, fingers crossed we will sell more rights across the world soon!
