Uke & Drum are spending time recording our third album! We tend to use home studio gear and our live rig to capture our music ourselves. Uke has a background in music production and does the engineering, recording and editing. It’s a whole other challenge from writing/performing and we love it!
This album is special too as it’s our first time recording with our newest band member Brian Andrews on bass. (Thrilled he will be at all our Sunset Saturday gigs again this season). Musically we are turning our attention to Caribbean music and the new songs have a reggae feel and vibe which has developed over the past year of live gigs.
The songs were written by Uke and in the studio we all add and our own style and ideas to make the final songs much more of a group sound. It’s a ton of work and also a lot of fun!
Saturday May 11, we perform at the Belmar Arts! and with luck it will also be the album release party! Until then join us 4/20 in Asbury Park for a little taste of the new “Sunshine Reggae” songs! Aloha Friends!
Photo is of our recording desk. Our studio is in a historic old house which adds to the vibe when we record... stay tuned for updates and music! Mahalo U&D
Throwback week, part THREE! Many of you who know me personally know that I was in a little production called Snowflake Lane for 5 years! Did you also know that I was 9 the first year I did it?
It was such a fun time. I got to make a lot of close friends, I didn’t learn sight-reading skills (because I am the greatest in the world at reading sheet music), and I got to learn what it’s like to be a team player. I don’t regret for a second being a part of Snowflake Lane.
Do you work in the creation of visual and/or sound media?
It’s hard to describe how much effort and detail goes into a project.
From directors, to crew, to editors, to engineers, to writers, to voice overs. It’s a melting pot of experience and interpretation.
We have to deal with budgets, milestones, deadlines! Not to mention hours of collaboration with people from all cultures and timezones.
Which is why, once you work with a team you like. You tend to stick with them!
The more projects you deliver with the same team, the more you learn how everyone works.
This is why my clients return to me. It’s a part of my business I spend a lot of the time thinking about. The job will get done, how you want it, when you want it.
But there is one unsung hero who makes my work come to life:
THE AUDIO PRODUCER
Who literally produces, mixes and masters all elements of the soundscape to produce a complete audio story.
In my opinion, you lovely lot need more recognition for the great work that you do and I for one salute you!
My most recent sound reel is produced by @NotableVoices, who I’ve worked closely with for the past few weeks to produce a reel that is very much ‘me’ right now. Thank you Nick for your hard work and professionalism. I can’t wait to share some results from this reel!
Hey guys, just released another free video from my upcoming @musicianofalltrades course to everyone signed up to that email list. If you’re not signed up the link is in my bio! This one is a 15 minute video from the audio recording and production section where we cover microphones in great detail lol! 😅🎤 I seriously love teaching about this stuff! Hope you get a lot out of this one!
