Just finished Brain on Fire from @suscahalan. A first person medical mystery? Sign me up. What struck me the most was, as she mentions near the end of the book, how lucky she was to not only get the care she needed, but also had the support system (including $$$) that made it easier (but still not easy!) to recover. As someone going into the medical field ( #occupationaltherapy ), I’m more aware of “social determinants of health” and just generally how some people (generally white) get better care than other people. From diagnosis through recovery, the system can screw you over. I’m thankful that this author was so frank and open about her experience, as it was painful and strange to re-love. #bookstagram#audiobook#audiobookstagram#brainonfire#autoimmunedisease

Listening to audiobooks 🎧 📚is really helping me finish more books this year. I get to experience great stories while driving, cleaning, and exercising. I still love my paper books and Kindle is wonderful for waiting rooms and boring meetings. How do you sneak your reading time in?
HEY!👋😄 Emilė here
Bringing you a review of Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough.
I would say it's a domestic thriller with a sci-fi twist. So if you only enjoy very traditional thrillers, this might not be for you, but if you keep an open mind or maybe want to slowly branch into sci-fi, this book may be perfect for you.
I don't want to say much else about it because it's best to go into thrillers quite blind and this one I do recommend.
4/5⭐ from me.
Do you have any thriller recommendations?
Read any good books lately? I’m always looking for a good book. I love talking books with my IRL friend @theunreadshelf and had such fun creating this piece of her favorites from 2018. Since creating this piece, I’ve read “The Other Wes Moore” and “The Best We Could Do”. Both are in my favorite category of books- memoirs. There’s something about people who can take their painful childhood, work through it themselves, and share it with the world that I can’t get enough of. Have any recommendations?
My 5th grader listened to this, and I promised her that I would queue it up next. (How could I NOT? She was SO enthusiastic about it!) I’m sure the book is great, but the audiobook is something super special. @scholasticinc really gave it the prime treatment and integrated the music that’s part of the story. I found myself listening to composers and songs who have been old friends and companions. The four tales included are skillfully woven together with the thread of music, and the connections are lovely to hear and experience. I also appreciated the history that’s included, and the way it’s integrated. I loved this book, and I’m exploring @pammunozryan’s other books. Two thumbs way up 👍🏻👍🏻 and five enthusiastic stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Highly recommended, whether you’re a middle grade reader or an adult looking for delight.
Where the Crawdads Sing is the captivating story of a girl named Kya surviving in the marshes of North Carolina after her family abandons her one by one. She is a wild, free spirit who feels she has more in common with the gulls than the people in town. Boys who get to know her are drawn to her, whether for the right or wrong reasons. Part coming of age, part courtroom drama, and part mystery, Where the Crawdads Sing was a slow start for me, but once I got a few chapters in, I could not stop. My heart broke for Kya and then I found myself rooting for her over and over again. Delia Owens makes Kya come alive and her personality leaps off of the pages.
Where the Crawdads Sing is the type of book I needed to process before writing this review. When it ended, I could not immediately jump into another book as I usually do. I had to sit, process, and revel in the feelings of the ending. That is always an indicator of an amazing story for me. This is by far my favorite read yet of 2019.
"I've never told this story before and I doubt I'll ever tell it again." -Kvothe.
🎵Kvothe is the innkeeper at Waystone Inn. who is to tell his entire life's story to a chronicler within three days, of which the book 1 covers only the first day.
🎵I'd like to welcome you to a world so meticulously built that it feels real. It has its own myths, legends, songs, currency and a brilliant magic system (Sympathy).
🎵The whole story is in first person (Kvothe's perspective) with interludes in third person narrative. The side characters like Bast, Auri, Elodin, Denna, Simmone, Wilem, etc. make this book even more compelling!
🎵"Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts. There are seven words that will make a person love you. There are ten words that will break a strong man's will. But a word is nothing but a painting of a fire. A name is the fire itself."
🎵Filled with many more such breathtaking lines, this book has such a beautiful prose that sometimes I felt as if I'm reading A poetry. It felt as if I could picture the music and hear the silence.
🎵In the end I'll say, this epic adult high fantasy book has everything, from action to romance,to comedy to tragedy, to horror, to music and of course, magic! I loved the audiobook and highly recommend it!

It’s always so satisfying when a book lives up to the hype! So that being said, I knew this book would be good, but I did not know it would be GREAT! I’d heard over and over that audio version is amazing (which it is, narrated by Trevor himself!), but I feel like a need a copy of this book just so I can go back through and mark all of my favorite quotes! I definitely didn’t expect to learn so much about the South African apartheid and I can’t wait to talk about it with all of you guys! .
Don’t forget tomorrow we will be discussing Born a Crime, the #DBCsummer member selection pick! The discussion will be taking place over at @diversebooksclub with our guest moderator @booksbeyondthenest at 10 AM ET.
“There is no tragedy to suffering. It is, just as happiness is. To be present for both, that is life I think. And it is a beautiful evening.”
Thank you to all the amazing people at @stmartinspress AND @macmillan.audio for putting this book in my hands. I started to read my physical copy and then when I downloaded the audiobook I was blown away by the narrator so I ended up going back and starting it over to listen to the whole thing! Every single time I sat down to read, it would end with me in tears. While I fully understand this was a fictional book the detail in which the author described this devastating disorder left a gaping hole in my heart. Yara Zgheib was able to weave together deeply raw emotions , pain, and struggle with pure hope, compassion, strength, and love in such a beautiful way. I feel very grateful to have read this book and I know that all the girls at 17 Swann Street have left a mark on my heart.

Hey guys! How’s your year going so far? It’s been great for me. I am on track to complete my Goodreads Reading Challenge to read 100 books this year. And I have discovered something amazing that’s going to help me read more and all the time. I had never listened to an audiobook, and honestly, I wasn’t interested. But I was losing so much of my reading time on laundry, travel and all other chores. I started listening to an audiobook on the Storytel app, and it’s been amazing! I completed my first audiobook recently, and I thought I’d tell you about it.
You can go to the app store and download the Storytel app. We have collaborated with Storytel so if you use the link in bio, and you’ll get a trial period of 30 days. It’s usually 14 days, but our link can get you 30 days trial. There’s an amazing catalogue of books such as Becoming by Michelle Obama read by Michelle Obama (her voice is sooo nice), Milk and Honey read by Rupi Kaur herself, The Kite Runner read by Khaled Hosseini. I already have 50 titles on my bookshelf from so many categories such as Children, Biographies, Crime, Economy & Business, Erotica, Non-Fiction, Fantasy & Sci Fi, History, Classics, Lyric Poetry, Short Stories, Personal Development, Fiction, Language, Thrillers, Young Adult. Woah!
Once you are hooked, which you will be, you can subscribe to more than 80,000 titles for just 299 a month. And not just audiobooks, they have e-books too! The poetry books of our favorite Instagram authors are also available. There is a sleep timer option. You can decide how long you want to listen. There’s a bookmark option too. The books are available in all the regional languages. You can gift a book to your friend. There’s a kid’s mode too (to keep adult books away from their reach). I can’t even imagine how good and easy my life has been since. 😍
PS: If you find me doing dishes with headphones on, just know I am listening to a book. Now I can say, I am always reading! 😎
