Haven’t done a #wuwednesday in forever but I just been reflecting how ODB really is one of my favorite artists to ever touch a mic. That’s one man you could never clone, people take influence but he’s just too too unique. Long Live Ol Dirty 🐝
Eminem turns 46 today and while I may not have been a fan for the last decade or so these two albums had me as a fanatic as a kid
My mom bought both of these albums when I was a kid on CD probably after I pestered her endless to buy them. Probably not something a child should hear but Em had me hooked because of his voice and the rhyme schemes and wild videos. I was too young to fully process it all but I knew I loved it. These two projects will always be special to me no matter what
Today's #vibeoftheday goes out to (@gnymakeshiphop) who is notorious for both his ability to utilize samples and create masterpieces, and his innate ability to never finish coffees, as he proves just that in this dope liveset. Head over to his page to check out more of his music.
In this episode of Baby Hiphop Heroes, #supergrover is searching for the perfect theme music before vanquishing the villainous Firefighter NoNo. He finally decides and asks me to play a song from one of his favorite groups which he simply refers to as "QUEST" that he calls "Left my money in the Jungle " .............................. After I got up off the floor and wiped the tears from my eyes, I played his theme music for him. ROTFLMBAO. #ATCQ#atribecalledquest#ileftmywalletinelsegundo#noahlangston#jbthr33

How do you like your steak?
I prefer medium because it allows the meat to have a nice crust while retaining all of it's natural juices. Comment below! 🥩

“Whateva Will Be” by A Tribe Called Quest
Five or so years ago, I was perusing the clearance racks at Urban Outfitters (my college self wasn’t about to pay $25 for a t-shirt) and stumbled across a $15 Tribe tee. I still wear the shirt, collecting buyer’s affirmation from those my age, parents older than my parents, and adolescents I wouldn’t expect to be familiar with the music.
Few groups in hip hop are able to reach a level of dopeness that transcends time, but three decades in and A Tribe Called Quest is still in top form on their 2016 album, We got it from Here…Thank You 4 Your service. Both a statement album on social issues and posthumous tribute to Malik Taylor, who you know in the rap world as Phife Dawg, “Whateva Will Be” is a standout track, utilizing a sample from 70’s Jamaican reggae to give a funky rhythm to this 3-minute lyrical exercise.
Due to Phife’s unexpected passing eight months prior to the release of this album, Tribe toured it lightly, packing raw emotion into each cathartic show that festival stages were fortunate enough to accommodate. Witnessing them at FYF for their final performance in LA was a beautiful experience. Performing at the intersection of excited and devastated, ATCQ rapped with the swagger and energy of their youth, interpolating Phife’s verses as the concert turned to a wake, celebrating the beats, rhymes, and life of “The Five Foot Assassin” who could float like gravity and never catch a cavity.
