Exhibition Reception: Friday, August 10, 2018
Connections features artwork by Armory Art Center instructors Mark Walnock in Ceramics, Lisa Johnson and Maria Tritico in Jewlery /Metalsmithing, and their students.
These active, inspiring, and dynamic teachers provide expertise and dialogues with their students to inspire and to help find their artistic voices. Likewise, students bring their experiences and visions of what they plan to create and hope to accomplish in class. This relationship creates Connections, a synergy between teachers and students.
Connections are also relevant between these two disciplines as both are three-dimensional. Although the technical approach to developing work in Ceramics and Jewelry/Metalsmithing is different, they connect with the same design language, tackle similar concepts, and share concerns regarding surface, scale, and functionality. “To develop a complete mind: study the science of art; study the art of science. Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.”
