Alejandro Escovedo in Best of 2018 @npr "Alejandro Escovedo is still punk, still loud and still so very vital. The Crossing is one of his best records ever for a lot of reasons, but mainly because it captures the essence of the vision he has carried since his earliest days making music." - Felix Contreras 📷 Nancy Rankin Escovedo
If they’re lucky enough, musicians have an amazing Rick Danko story. You’ve got to hear @alejandro_escovedo share details of a terrifying “last supper” that is one of our all-time favorite stories. Click the link in our bio and listen to Alejandro tell it!

Legendary Mexican-American musician Alejandro Escovedo joins the Port Fairy line-up.
His career began with punk innovators The Nuns, opening for the Sex Pistols final show in ‘78.
His songs have been recorded by Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Calexico and he has shared the stage with a supreme set of musos from Bruce Springsteen, John Prine and the Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
I’m looking forward to meeting this man in person and hearing him play at the Folkie in March.
A week and change after #diodelosmuertos as good a day as any to pour one out for #tonykinman - one of the great pioneers, trailblazers, songwriters, authentic voices, and soothing baritones American music has or will ever produce. Started off playing bass with the Dils in the vanguard of punk; formed Rank and File with brother-guitarist-tenor-songwriting partner @chipkinman and roots country twang will never be the same; and topped it Cowboy Nation’s devotion to reinventing a timeless genre with the lushly soothing melodies, new standards, and definitive treatment of Shenandoah. One day we’ll spin yarns and set some untold tales to music on the banks of the Styx with John R. Cash, Roseanne Cash, the Carter Family, @mikeness and some of the boys, Joe Strummer, and maybe some Mescaleros, Paul Simonon and the Havana 3 am’ers; and, yes, that’s Tony’s band mate #alejandroescovedo in the bottom right center pic frame one from the #Austin days. Third frame? One of the all-time great album covers, the long including #longgonedead (“the years go by - soon you’ll be long gone dead”) #vinyl#slashrecords owned ‘em all #thrashcountry#gonebutneverforgotten@americanrootsmusic

The Nuns-CBS Demo 1977. 2017 Mabuhay Records, Europe/UK. I’ve been on a hunt for this since it’s release late last year. This is, by far, the best Nuns recording I’ve ever heard. The story goes, these songs were recorded live to tape in late 1977 as a demo for CBS Records, who were looking to sign them. Some of these same songs ended up on their various singles and debut Posh Boy LP from 1980. These versions kick the shit out of anything that was previously out there. Alejandro Escovedo’s guitar playing is as good as punk rock gets on this. I’d like to personally shake whoever’s hand who acquired this cassette and decided to put out this bootleg. The sound quality is top notch. A couple rough spots, as the source was a 40 year old cassette. It’s big, loud and on your face. #thenuns#alejandroescovedo#punk#bootleg#stevesstackofrecords#vinyligclub#nowspinning#punkrecords
True love. Alejandro Escovedo and yours truly will be singing songs together at Berlin on Wednesday night, in the basement of 2A at the corner of E. 2nd St. and Avenue A. Some of his, some of mine, and some classic Nuggets If You Dug Its. Al is one of the most soulful humans I know. It should be a heartfelt celebration of the muse we call music.

Just downloaded this... so sick. Bootleg (?) of the Nuns 1977 demo they recorded live in the studio for CBS Records. I've had one of the songs from this demo, "Getting Straight," since I taped it off Oedipus' show on the MIT station in 1978. In fact, when I messaged their vocalist Jennifer (R.I.P.) some years back to ask her about it, I don't think she remembered the details of the recording but said, "wow, that's a rare one..." Way more raw than the album. #kbdpunk#kbd#alejandroescovedo#jennifermiro#thenuns
