YOU CAN MAKE CHOICES, OR YOU CAN MAKE EXCUSES... After an incident with a boxing bag last weekend I was left with a fractured wrist.
Is that an excuse to take a break from training for a few weeks? HELL NO!
With the help of the Bikeerg and Zwift I’ve been smashing out the kilometers this week.
I consider injuries an opportunity to find ways around the limitations and work on areas that may need a little more attention.
Exercise is my drug of choice to keep my body, brain and physiology in check.
Summited Alpe du Zwift for the first time today while watching Game of Thrones ep “The Climb.” I thought it was an appropriate accompaniment. Got a photo of the screen & my Garmin during the climb. I was all prepared for the perfect caption during Baelish’s epic chaos monologue but I blew it. Hard not to take a blurry photo while riding, but the speech was inspiring: “The climb is all there is.” #goosebumps#aidangillen
I felt like Sansa at the moment of the photo. Afterwards I felt like Jon and Ygritte exhausted at the top. 4055 vertical feet and 22.8 miles in 2:31 (that includes my run up to the mountain plus some extra climbing I added on the way down). For those that don’t know, Alpe du Zwift is a virtual recreation of the most famous climb in the Tour de France and maybe the world, the Alpe d’Huez. It’s in the virtual cycling world of Zwift. Zwift rocks! If you ever ride on a trainer you should be zwifting.
I was actually doing an interval workout so I wasn’t paying attention to the climb. I was just doing my workout up the mountain which is why I was watching a video. When I try to climb it for real the first time I won’t watch anything but the scenery.
I’ve been rewatching Game of Thrones with Javi (he’s watching for the first time). I knew this workout was coming up and he went ahead and watched this episode while he was off from school (the bastard). So it was perfect timing.
First @GoZwift Academy Race Done❗For some reason I thought this would only take at most 1 hour, not realising that Alpe du Zwift was part of the climb race. 1:40+ later I was finished. I did set a new PB/PR, by 12 mins, up this climb. New time is 1:13❗ HR was in the 160s BPM for pretty much the whole climb. This short clip is of one of 13% sections. There are more 😀
Glad to get it done.
That leaves 4 workouts, 1 group ride and 1 race to get done by next Saturday.
Next Wednesday I'll be trying out the 10mile TT race and streaming the mess I will be. Link in bio.
Knee is still feeling pretty good.
