Here’s the next 📖 I’m diving into this week...
It’s Not Yet Dark - A memoir by Simon Fitzmaurice
#📚 Whenever I walk into a bookstore I always leave with 1-3 books that have been on my reading list and 1 book that I’ve never heard of...just stumbled upon while browsing the aisles.
This is my random find and I’m pretty excited about it.
What are you reading right now? #whatimreading
I love Harry Potter. The 3rd one is my favourite because Sirius but there is a special place in my heart for the first one. The introduction of all the magic is just... well magic 😆
I tried reading this to Ben a few years ago but he was just not ready for listening to a story with no pictures but we are having success this time around and I’m so happy 🙌🏻
The only book I can think of the top of my head that I don’t really like is The Hobbit.
Buuut it’s been a few years since I tried reading it. As in I was in high school, and even then I read the first page and gave up 😂
Who else is a potterhead? What’s your favourite one?

“Terrible things can happen in this life but being in love changes everything. It gives you something to hold on to.” • In The Unlikely Event, an adult novel by Judy Blume, is about finding scraps of happiness in moments of unbelievable hardship, and the importance of relationships - the largest and the smallest. Based around real life events, namely the three planes that crashed within three months in 1950s New Jersey, this novel is crushing, uplifting and a little disorienting. It takes a while to unravel all the characters and their place and importance in the story, but if you’re willing to persist, the rewards are rich. • #stellerreads •

JUST FINISHED: Prisoners of Geography ~ Tim Marshall
An interesting one to kick off the #bookstagram journey! Prisoners of Geography examines modern day geopolitics from a perspective not often considered – the role played by geography and the natural landscape. •
Each of the book’s 10 chapters is dedicated to a different region of the world, and Marshall examines the unique constraints placed by the physical environment on the development of civilisations and nation states. The book delves into the legacy of colonialism in Africa and Latin America, questions the role the USA may play in the Middle East in the near future given its diminishing reliance on the region for its energy supplies, and the changing dynamic in the arctic circle due to climate change. •
I really enjoyed this book – it’s a fairly easy read but will challenge the way you view the international political landscape 🌍
This book follows the story of upper class Fleetwood, a young pregnant woman, and her midwife Alice. Set in the 1600’s around the time of the Pendle Witch trials in Lancashire, the author has mixed fact and fiction to create a consuming and enjoyable read.
If I were to be really critical, I do feel the last few chapters lacked the detail that was so enjoyable in the beginning, however I still very much enjoyed this book and felt satisfied with the ending.
There is power in the word. This past week I think I’ve read my two favorite books of the year. This is one of those that I want to reread again, I highlighted everywhere, I’m so glad I listened and read along. When a book physically moves you- when you find yourself gasping or crying or cheering out loud- there is power in the word. @acevedowrites has a gift and I want to put it in every teenage girl’s hand that I know- especially young women of color, who especially need to know that we see them and their voices and words have power. Themes around family, religion, our parents, being seen and heard and finding our way. Questioning our faith. Coming into our own. I loved every minute of reading this and wish I was in Ms. Fontaine’s or Mrs. Mountain’s English classes all over again just to see the joy of young women reading this for the first time. Seriously. Go read it. And any of my @love_center_ministries_10440 doves or millennials want to read it and the wait is too long at the library- let me know and I’ll figure out a way to get you a copy. 💕 #whatimreading#thepoetx#wordsmatter

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS // it's audio publication day for my latest book, The Pieces of You and Me, today. I'm hoping for good reviews and loosing myself in a book I didn't write! Happy Thursday loves! (80/365 #project365 )
These days, I’m seeking books I can get lost in, and this one fits the bill. It’s book 14 in my 2019 #readingresolution : The Medici by Paul Strathern. It’s a history of the (in)famous family as well as the city of Florence. This book is scholarly enough to hold my attention, yet it’s deftly written and moves along at a good pace despite the depth and breath of its subject. Who wants to meet me in Florence next summer? 🧳🕶 #whatimreading#bigbooks#marchreads#amreading#medici#florence

My new current read. It’s one of the books set out in my personal list of 100 canonical books that I’m working my way through (link in profile to see how many you’ve read - please let me know!!) but I’m not sure I’m going to stick with it.
So far it feels like every part is a self indulgence, a means for the author to show off how clever he is and to revel in it.
It has been a quick read to pick up, I’m already 50 pages in, of 650. I’m going to give it another day or so, in case it smooths out and becomes less annoying. Otherwise my relationship with Jonathan Franzen will come to a premature end.
Can you think of any books where you couldn’t see past the author’s ego?? And how many books on my list have you read? 😊😊

Currently sipping on my coffee as I finish up my third book of the year “The Last Black Unicorn “ by @tiffanyhaddish which btw I’ve shared snippets of it on my instastories which had me dead laughing.
Some chapters are sweet and others are bittersweet and it’s truly an inspirational story.
As I kept on reading the book I couldn’t help but admire her demeanor and I learnt a bunch of lessons which I am sharing here:
-Teach Your Kids about Sex and Sexual Harassment
-Take Your Ls and Grow from There
-Live For You, and Be Unafraid
-Keep pushing forward
-Mindset is everything-Mind your mindset
- Find the joy and the fun in everything you go through coz there are lessons to be picked

What a book! I picked this one up not knowing a single thing about it. I expected a feel-good romance, maybe even a little cheesiness; I did NOT expect it to be so much more. It’s personal, deep, moving, and a 5⭐️ read for me easily. I don’t want to give a single thing away so I’m not going to do a synopsis, but just know that the cover quote— “Every person with a heartbeat should read this book”—is 100% correct.
Hey everybody! Some of you may have noticed - or maybe you didn’t and that’s fine too - but I’ve taken a mini hiatus this week from bookstagram. I’ve been stressed out, anxious, and depressed the past couple weeks and I just needed to step away from the pressure I put on myself here. But some positives that have been going on:
1) I paid off my wedding! (for the most part - I only need to think of incidental costs now.)
2) I got a record player and have been living my best life. My Grammy gave it to me for my bridal shower along with some of the records from my late Papa’s collection he listened to at my age. It was a great way to be able to spend some time thinking of and missing him.
3) My fiancé texted me today with a really fun idea for some content in April that we can do together that I’m very excited about.
4) I am halfway through The Priory of the Orange Tree and I love it. It keeps getting better and better and the stakes keep getting higher and higher. I’m in love with so many of these characters and I almost don’t want it to end.
So that is my mid-week update and positivity highlights. I hope you all are having an amazing week.

What lovely book mail to wake up to this afternoon! I didn’t sleep well (what else is new) and I still have 2 nights to go in this stretch! I am SO EXCITED to have received this finished copy of The Girl He Used to Know in the mail today from @stmartinspress - I know what I’m bringing to work with me now! This one looks sooo good!
Speaking of other exciting book mail today another order from @cm_bookmarks came in today! I LOVE her work! I obviously HAD to get the coffee and bookstagram one. And she even made me my very own custom Nerdy Book Nurse book girl in scrubs and everything!! I have one other bookmark but it will be revealed soon with a very special photo - so stay tuned!
Time for some coffee and willing myself awake. BONUS for me is it’s daylight savings so while everyone else loses an hour of sleep I only have to work 11 hours tonight!! All my other third shift workers know what I mean! Best night to work the graveyard of the year! What are your plans this weekend??
