“Society impresses upon people—especially women—that if you don't look a certain way, you're just not good enough. You're not beautiful. You're not worthy. You're not this and you're not that. I loved how Dhonielle Clayton explored that in the novel. For me, what I find especially difficult is dealing with impractical societal expectations while working in the entertainment industry. [But then I’ll] remind myself that this is my body, and it's something I need to love and be proud of because it's the only one I'll get. ” —@chloelukasiak 🌹
OK guys — it’s time to check in on our March selection, #TheEverlastingRose (book number 2 in #TheBelles series). We’re exploring themes about the power of women — both good and evil — and the dangerously dark side of beauty. What are your thoughts about the story so far? Do you ever feel pressure to look a certain way — and how do you deal with that? Who are some powerful women that make you feel strong and inspired? Share in the comments! 🖤

I'm so close to booking holiday so I can stay at home and read! my #TBRPile is full of so many wonderful books to devour!
The Everlasting Rose was released last week. I still don't understand the book and typography design but I did LOVE the first book in this series (The Belles) so I'm willing to look past it!.
Are there any books that you wish had a different cover design?
Have you ever loved an author as a person but not been a fan of their work?
It’s truly an odd pickle to find oneself.
One of the first books I reviewed was The Belles. I bought it at the North Texas Teen Book Festival after hearing Dhonielle Clayton speak for the first time.
If you’ve never seen her, she’s this tiny ball of kinetic energy that immediately captivates your attention and you can’t help but feel giddy and excited.
This was not the feeling The Belles gave me. But, ever a lover of series I decided that the second time would be the charm.
It was not.
But, I refuse to give up. She will be in attendance at the NTTBF again this weekend so I’ll pick up a copy of Shiny Broken Pieces and cross my fingers that the third time is magic!

I am SO excited to finally read the Everlasting Rose. I LOVED the Belles when it first came out - the writing style was absolutely gorgeous, the story kept me hooked, and the ending just blew me away. I have been waiting for this sequel for months, and I am thrilled that it is finally here. I cannot wait to dive back into this beautiful, intricately detailed world, and find out how Camellia’s story concludes.
THE BELLES | I just picked up the sequel to this enchanting book and I am seriously considering a re-read of this one before moving on to THE EVERLASTING ROSE. I don’t want to miss out on one call-back or detail because of my bad memory! 🌹 🥀
The Belles was a surprisingly good read for me so I was looking forward to finishing the story with The Everlasting Rose. The book is a turn from the first, like the covers but good as well. I loved the teacup pets, miniatures of elephants, and zebras, unicorns and dragons. If you like audiobooks I highly recommend listening to this series, the narrator is excellent and her interpretation of princess Sophia’s voice is perfect!
Every rose has its thorns. . .🌹
that isn’t just a cool tagline but I got pinched by thorns while taking this photo 😂👌🏼
• #gifted | thank you @freeform & @letstalkya so much for partnering with me for the release of The Everlasting Rose as well as the lovely bouquet!
If you haven’t heard of #TheEverlastingRose , it’s the sequel of The Belles by @brownbookworm which I absolutely LOVED last year 🎉🎉 and I cant wait to dive into this book soon! I’ve been on a YA fantasy kick so maybe I’ll keep that going! 📖

What are you currently reading?
Good Morning Book Dragons! I've partnered with @LetsTalkYA and @FreeForm to show off #TheEverlastingRose ! This comes out TODAY, ahhh! I’m actually reading The Belles currently and I am absolutely loving it so far! It is dark, has women empowerment, stretches the boundaries of what beauty is and has pages full of diverse characters! All the things we need in a YA fantasy book!
Do you judge books by their covers?
Okay okay, so am I the only one that thought The Belles was going to be a book about romance and pretty rainbows and then read it and realized how sorely wrong I was? Man, this book can get pretty dark and I mean that in the best way. I love a dark fantasy book, and I wasn't expecting to love this book as much as I am! I am honestly so excited to read The Everlasting Rose!
With a price on her head, the evil Queen Sophia out for blood, and no idea who to trust, Camellia Beaureguard, the former favorite Belle, must race against time to find the ailing Princess Charlotte, who has disappeared without a trace. Sophia's imperial forces will stop at nothing to keep Camellia, her sister Edel, and her loyal guard, Rémy, from returning Charlotte to the palace and her rightful place as queen.
With the help of an underground resistance movement called the Iron Ladies – a society that rejects beauty treatments entirely – and the backing of alternative newspaper The Spider's Web, Camellia uses her powers, her connections, and her cunning to outwit her greatest nemesis, Sophia, and attempt to restore peace to Orléans.
But enemies lurk in the most unexpected places, forcing Camellia to decide just how much she's willing to sacrifice to save her people.

We *love* getting real on the ‘gram with a fresh-faced selfie — and that’s why we’re challenging YOU to share your own au naturel snap (just like @chloelukasiak’s!) in honor of our March selection, #TheEverLastingRose . 🥀 The story explores the ugly side of the beauty industry — and society’s obsession with glamour and perfection. It’s a twisty, addicting read that will definitely make you think twice about the beauty standards you set for yourself — and that’s why we’re asking the #chloesbookclub community to post a very natural or makeup-free selfie (either to your feed or Insta Story), then tag @chloesbookclub and #chloesbookclub . We’ll be reposting the pics on our Story throughout the week! (Pssst: JSYK, we can’t see or share your photo if your account is private.) 📸
Want a sneak peek of CHLOE’S COMMENTARY about the book? Read on. “Here's the awful truth: I don't love my body all of the time. I have trouble with my thighs and my stomach, which seems silly even as I write that out. Those feelings are usually amplified when I go into fittings. I'll work with a stylist who pulls clothes for me to wear at events like award shows and fashion week. But sometimes during those fittings, some articles of clothing just don't fit me. Right away, I feel embarrassed and self-conscious. I start to harp on the things that I already dislike about my appearance. One voice inside of me won’t shut up about how inadequate I am based on society's standards. But at the same time, another, slightly quieter voice is like ‘This is your body—why do you feel embarrassed?!” 🖤

Beauty is everywhere here on Vancouver Island! I’m partnering with @LetsTalkYA and @Freeform to celebrate the release of #TheEverlastingRose by @brownbookworm by showing off my idea of beauty. I feel the most beautiful when I’m surrounded by nature, and Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia has absolutely gorgeous forests and stunning beaches. What makes you feel beautiful?
I love that you can’t control beautiful Mother Nature, but in the exciting world of #TheBelles , Belles control beauty, and beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. Camellia Beaureguard is a Belle who has dreamed of becoming the favorite – the Belle chosen by the Queen of Orléans to tend to the royal family. But being the favorite puts Camellia in the middle of a conflict that could put the entire world of Orléans at stake and change the ways of her world forever.
