While everyone is showing off their beautiful frosty shots, I'm reminiscing warmer days spent exploring water falls. Our heat is on the fritz again so I'm actually pretty glad it's not snowing here yet.
not the greatest of photos, but super grateful for the opportunity i had tonight to go take a tour of the mtc! there are no words that can even begin to express how excited i am to join God's army in 76 days!!!! the church is so true <3 #tennesseebound
Back in Chattanooga today. Lately, its been my favorite place to explore on my days off since there are still so many trails I haven't been on. I think I used to keep away from lookout and signal because some of it is very tourist trappy. But most of the trails I've been on have been very quiet, which is the way I like it.
Now if I could just remember to grab my national parks pass before I leave home.. 🤷🏼♀️
This week at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we’re excited to start a countdown to the official opening of the new 16-mile section of the Foothills Parkway on Saturday, November 10. Just 5 days to go!
It might not be long now until this magnificent road opens, but it has certainly been a long time coming. The Foothills Parkway was mandated by Congress in 1944 to provide motorists with a scenic drive offering spectacular views of Great Smoky Mountains National Park along its northern border from Chilhowee, TN to Interstate 40 east of Cosby, TN with construction beginning in the 1960s. Construction for the 16-mile section between Walland and Wears Valley faced many challenges over the decades due to dwindling funding and an unexpected structural wall failure. Engineers developed a design solution in the 1990s to solve structural problems while minimizing environmental impact by constructing multiple bridges along this section of the parkway.
We are excited to share this new section of the Foothills Parkway with you in just a few days! This section from Wears Valley, TN to Walland, TN will join the existing 5.6-mile Foothills Parkway East and 17-mile Foothills Parkway West. Stay tuned all week as we celebrate and count down the days!
