Delegating tasks can be tricky for a small business owner, or even a new leader within a company.
If you're used to handling every detail of your business, releasing responsibility to someone new is a difficult thing to do. How can you trust that things will get done the way that you like them done? How can you trust that they'll get done at all?
The key word there is TRUST. It's critical to the situation that you grant some trust to the person you've determined is capable of doing these things.
If you're struggling to give some things up, here are a few steps you can to do to be more comfortable in this situation.
▫️ Give a test project before you even bring someone on. This gives them the opportunity to prove their skills and experience to you BEFORE you make the decision to hire them, or bring them onto your team. I've found this extremely helpful as someone who's gone through the process. I want to know what type of work to expect and how the team works before I can make an informed decision myself.
▫️Start small. There's nothing wrong with taking small steps in the right direction. Maybe you can't offload all of your critical projects immediately, but incorporating that person into the team and bringing them up to speed is a great step in the right direction.
▫️ Work on the relationship. You can do this in a few ways. Get to know the person - how they function in work environments, what their work style is, and the types of projects they enjoy most. Productivity is more likely when someone is doing the tasks that they actually enjoy.
These are just a few things that I've found to be helpful! Let me know how you've learned to delegate or onboard team members.

📍I had so much fun setting up with @honey this morning for @bldrstartupweek! If you’ve never heard of honey, but you like saving money (who doesn’t?) you MUST check them out. It’s a free browser extension that automatically finds and applies the Internet’s best discount codes at checkout for over 30,000 shopping sites (even Amazon!) Once it’s downloaded, you literally have to do nothing to save the bucks. I discovered honey a few months back and it has cut so much time out of my day that I would have normally spent trying to find the best price (super frugal shopper here🙋🏻♀️) so naturally I was STOKED to find out that they wanted to collaborate for some events! Today’s crowd was full of curious palettes and thoughtful questions, which makes me really look forward to serving this crew again soon. Thanks again to the folks at honey for supporting another local startup!

As a kid I remember watching the news and seeing tech giant IBM on the tv. Back then the tech world of inventions & innovations only existed in my mind and a book in which I used to sketch my ideas.
I love learning and also love seeing how other people have implemented their own knowledge to create something amazing. IBM delivered a great Summit! (Not sure what’s up with the blue mood lighting 😂)

Everyone told Eric Yuan that Zoom didn’t need to exist. But last week, the videoconferencing company went public valued at $15.9 billion.
That wasn’t Yuan’s only hurdle to starting the business — his visa application to move from China to the U.S. was denied 8 times. When he finally made it in 1997, he barely spoke English.
Now, he’s worth almost $3 billion and was voted Glassdoor’s big company CEO of the year in 2018.
