*RETIRED* |Del Norte County Sheriffs Dept., CA, USA| 🇺🇸 The county was established in 1857 and is located in the north-west corner of California, along the Oregon border! The area and land is still, to this day inhabited by the Yurok and Tolowa Nations of indigenous people. The area gained the attention of settlers during the California Gold Rush. The County encompasses an area of approximately 1,200 square miles and is home to Pelican Beach, the Smith River, Redwood National Park and many others. ————————————————————————
In January of 2018 DNSD Sheriff Apperson swore in the first member of the Yurok Tribe as a Deputy! The process was a joint effort between the Yurok Tribal Police and the Sheriff's Department. The officer (originally with Tribal PD) was deputized by DNSD, but still retains his Tribal Police standing. This was made possible through a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies. Therefore, the newly sworn Deputy can enforce both California Law throughout the state, as well as, Tribal Law! ➖FUN FACT➖ Scenes from the Star Wars movie, 'Return of the Jedi' were filmed in Del Norte County for some of the Ewok forest shots! Deputy Sheriff and single mom injured in the line of duty "TERMINATED" days before Thanksgiving, due to her medical condition.
Deputy McRee worked for a County Sheriff's Office in Texas. On April 17, 2018 she was on patrol travelling at approximately 55mph when she was rear ended by a commercial vehicle travelling at 70mph.
The incident left her with a serious cervical spine injury requiring surgery. When she requested medical attention her plea was ignored and was advised the incident was not a workers compensation incident because the company responsible for the accident took fault.
This injustice, continued delays and the bureaucracy of her department soon left her without pay, insurance and ultimately terminated. Suffering from distressing pain and a gamut of emotions, she took matters into her own hand. She secured a loan and her neurosurgeon performed a cervical fusion January 8th, 2019.
Let’s all band together and show her what her department couldn’t. Together her blue family and all our pro-police supporters can ensure her needs are met to take care of herself and her daughter. Far to often officers are injured by no fault of their own while they are protecting and serving, only to find themselves on the brink of financial disaster. Help us help her.
