Self reflection moment — If someone feels comfortable enough to open up to you about problems they’re going through — listen. Don’t be dismissive with phrases such as “get over it” “sorry you feel that way” or “it’ll be fine.” Listen to the problem and show support. 🏆
Taken just before I told my husband: "I'm thinking of dropping out." Clearly, the thought of my very first DNF made me happy. Come mile 16, not one part of me wanted to run another 10 miles. So I turned around & headed for my bag at the finish--ran 18 miles, not 26.2. What happened? The weather was perfect. I nailed a sub-2 half PR just 6 weeks ago. My training was good. I made it to race day healthy & uninjured. The problem? I was tired. Downright fatigued. My body & my mind were like, "Why are we doing this?" So I listened. And I feel really good about that. Happy, even. I've already proven to myself I'm a beast--thanks to my #BostonMarathon-in-a-Nor'easter finish, sub-2 half PR at 40, and, um, childbirth. I know I've got grit. I also know I've got maturity. It took me 12 years of racing to know when to say when, that *sometimes* it's better NOT to finish what you started. Time to rest. Thanks for a great day regardless, Philly. Marathon finish #10 lives to see another day... #PhillyMarathon#marathon#marathoner#sundayrunday#truth#runstagram#runnermom#teamwr#runlife#marathonrunning
