Throwing back to @teachyourtruth with @officialnigelwalker a year ago today when I volunteered myself to get scribbled on for shoulder anatomy! (And no, my scapulae aren't actually that different in size)
It's amazing how the spark of interest I experienced that day has taken me so far. I just challenged myself and my students more than ever this weekend with unconventional (even more than usual) shoulder focused classes. We explored some new ways to move around with props and in traditional yoga poses, some Yoga Tune Up® movement, and breathing techniques all in a single hour. It's scary at times to push the boundaries, but even when some cues don't land and I make mistakes I'm so grateful for my students' understanding and accepting it all the same. Thank you for showing up on your mats week after week and allowing me to be my weird self; you're all so amazing.
Been thinking of ways to step up my game even more for you all, and so I've started planning some exciting stuff for the holidays! Will reach out for input in the near future, keep your eyes peeled!
❗️READ THIS CAPTION IF YOU’VE TROUBLE STARTING TO WORK OUT❗️ .
So, if you want to get started working out, instagram may look like if everyones all ripped and big and stuff. And YOUR fitbody looks miles away.. It’s like everyone showing off there porsche but not how they made the money, right? I do this too, for me it’s simply to grab ATTENTION to spread my message to a wider audience. Now that I have your attention, let’s shift our focus to actually HELP you start working out..
Are you ENJOYING the way you’re working out right now?
The first 4 months I spend bench pressing only because that was FUN.
Thats obviously not a good way, but the main key to get into fitness is to have FUN. You will get interested in it more, week by week, give it TIME. If you have FUN working out, results matter less, because you’re actually enjoying what you’re doing. The next step will require your ACTION and DETERMINATION, are you ready?
If you have trouble start working out, i want YOU to start doing something that’s FUN for the upcoming 6 months. For example:
Workout with a friend, group sessions, spinning, ANYTHING. This way you will get the habit into your system and gain interest in the topic.
That’s it, no more bullshit. Have FUN will get you RESULTS.
• vulnerable, honest, and long post ahead •
Everyone has a different reason they exercise, and why they exercise the way they do.
I would venture and say the majority of people do it to look good, with all honesty. They do. We ALL want to “look good.”
Some people need to lose weight for health reasons. So, begrudgingly, they drag their ass to the gym.
I workout because I need to. Like... really need to.
I’ve had anxiety issues my entire adult life, some of my adolescent life. If you knew me back then, I’m sure you understand where some of it stems from.
I’ve been on 4 different anti-depressants, an anxiety medication, and a sleep medication in the last several years.
I took myself off of the last of them one year ago this month. (With supervision of a doctor and carefully, I’m not a moron.) I didn’t like how I felt.
A couple of months later, it hit an all time high. I thought I’d never function without it like a “normal” person.
About the same time, I noticed my weight was kind of getting out of control.. like my eating, my habits. So luckily, I changed for that reason. “To look good.”
But I realize now.. it keeps my mind calm. When I’m out for a couple days (vacation, illness, injury) I feel it. I feel like a hamster on a wheel going a million miles an hour.
It keeps me “healthy”. Mentally, and physically.
Whatever your reason, own it.
Exercise is so incredibly important.. find your reason.
What is resveratrol?
It’s a powerful antioxidant found in red grape skin and Japanese knotweed. Recently it has become popular for its claimed anti-aging properties. Ted and his research partners have been studying it for years for its newly discovered pain fighting properties.
〽️〽️〽️So basically for my entire life I’ve always hid my stomach. I wore a “tankini” until they were uncool (lol) and tried not to wear a bikini in public. I always thought my birthmarks would freak people out and my chub was way toooooo unappealing. 🤦🏽♀️ 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
〽️〽️〽️As I continued to participate in various athletics, I began to understand how important it is to train different parts of your body and how important nutrition and your diet is! I always thought if I worked out and stayed under calories I could eat what ever I wanted... oh boy... did I learn the hard way. 🤷🏽♀️ .
〽️〽️〽️These pictures are from today, the END of the day. I’m extremely proud of these pictures because I have worked hard at the gym and in the kitchen, choosing how to fuel and train my body to meet certain goals. I’m not stopping here!
My summer goals: tone my back, tone my arms, tighten my core during all my workouts b/c I hate an training & more! 〽️〽️〽️It is important to remember that our body fluctuates throughout the day and it is possible to gain or lose ~3 pounds in a day and bloat!!! It’s up to you to decide what you’re fueling yourself with, how your responding to how you feel, and how your treating your body. Keep your goals high because YOU are your only competitor and BELIEVE in yourself... that is the only way you will reach them. ❤️ -

Can you do this seated pike dislocate flow? This is a great way to mobilize the shoulders and spine as you get a nice hamstring stretch. Move slowly and with control. The wider your hands are on the stick, the easier it will be. Use a weighted stick like I did in this video for more of a challenge. As you lean forward keep a flat back for as long as possible. If it feels good for you then curl the spine forwards as you compete the dislocate.
