Our skin cells are constantly replenishing and replacing themselves. The cells in the bottom layer of our skin keep moving up and up until they flatten and harden in the topmost layer and fall off. Throughout your life you would shed about 45kg of dead skin. Isn't that mad? 😱 But we don't notice the shedding because our skin falls off in microscopic pieces.
For some people, their skin comes off in larger pieces, typically from the skin under their hair/scalp. This is what's known as dandruff.
Sadly enough, about half the world's population suffers from this condition.
Now let's get a bit scientific here. Malassezia globosa is a fungus that lives on everyone's scalp. It thrives in the warm, moist environment under the hair and it is thought to be one of the causes of dandruff. It lives on the oils called sebum, secreted by the skin, and releases enzymes called lipases that break down fat molecules. The breakdown products - the free fatty acids - irritate the scalp. Our scalp perceives this as a form of invasion and and turns on all defensive forces it has to repel these invaders.
These defensive forces end of causing this collateral damage that we call dandruff.
Defensive forces could be summarised as increasing cell turnover. This leads to accumulation of more dead skin cells on the scalp and they shed off as clumps (which we see as dandruff)
So that's what dandruff actually is. I tried to explain it in simple terms, however there's more to it and scientists are still researching on countless ways about how to get rid of it forever. Let me know in the comments section below if this helped clarify things for you 💖
The love of an amazing woman can move mountains 🏔 or in this case a hairline!

Slowly losing your hairline but winning the race 🐇🛣🐢🏆
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) can bring back that receding hairline or loss of density.
Density is built up by depositing tiny impressions with a layering process where we go over the entire area each visit and build up the pigment in the skin.
SMP sessions are performed over 3 visits and are spaced 10 days to 2 weeks apart which gives the skin time to heal. This is important as it allows us to see the healed pigment in the skin and adjust the pigment shade and depth impressions if necessary.

#Hairloss is an #aesthetic issue that some people wish they weren’t experiencing. Let’s look at how it develops:
1) There are 3 stages to the growth of hair follicles. It first begins an active growth phase known as the #anagen phase. As the anagen grows (1cm every 28 days), only the root consists of live growing #cells, while the end of the #follicle consists only of dead cells.
This anagen growth phase lasts for 2-7 years. It then transitions into the #catagen phase, where nutrient supply is cut off and the hair is completely dead, while still embedded on the skin as a #clubhair. Approximately 10-20% of your hair is club hair that stops growing but may not be shed for the next few months.
The club hairs enter the #telogen phase, where they are finally shed. Factors such as extreme #stress and going on a #crashdiet can accelerate the hairs entering the telogen phase, which results in a noticeable loss of #hair and a #balding#scalp.
2) The hair follicles on our bodies are naturally coloured by #melanin-producing cells (melanocytes). When the body is subjected to #oxidativestress and a higher concentration of #reactiveoxygenspecies (ROS), melanocyte pigmentation activity falls and results in the growth of non-pigmented #grayhair#aging.
3) The #Nrf2 pathway () in our cells helps to counteract both hair loss and pigmentation loss by #cellsignalling to produce more #endogenous#antioxidants for ROS neutralisation, which can also work at restoring hair colour and inhibits the transition of the hair from anagen to catagen, and also impact one’s #metabolism positively! #aginggracefully
Is your #lifestyle and #nutrition sufficient to counteract the effects of stress in your life today? Or are you trending towards premature graying and using additional ROS-producing hair dyes for cosmetic purposes with negative nutritional value?
