The plan for the SCMHK Half was to do something slightly faster than marathon pace, and really, I thought 1:18 would be “easy” but boy was it windy today and it felt like it was a headwind almost the entire way. I struggled a bit to find the target effort as my easy effort left me closer to 3:50 pace, and I was constantly leaning forward into HM effort on and off to keep the average pace around 3:45. In the end I had to really hammer 3:26/km pace at the end just to dip under 1:20. 2 weeks more to Tokyo and it’s just a little bit more grinding to do.
Long Run: Lazarus Island Edition.
As my long run distance increases; I have set myself the challenge of finding new locations in Singapore to explore. Today I got the boat to St Johns Island and ran over the link bridge to see what Lazarus Island had to offer.
Run wise it's totally flat, mostly paved, (although I ran on the grass next to the pavement) and very exposed. It meant for a hot run, a challenge when there's no way to buy water on the island but the lack of elevation made it ideal for a steady heart rate run and the views were incredible. When I'd finished I had a whole beach to myself and the post run swim was glorious!
I'd highly recommend you check it out if you haven't been already, either for a run or a beach day, but learn from my mistakes... take lots of suncream and extra water! A very kind man shared his with me or I'd be quite worse for wear now. Also, if you go, please bring your rubbish back with you. I saw a monitor lizard with a plastic bag wrapped round it's stomach and couldn't help it. There are no bins so please go and leave no trace 🌎
15km in the bag for this week and looking forward to see where the next run will take me 🏃🏽♀️
Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2019
Just some last minute random thoughts in my mind:
Ready or not, just do it!
Just keep running!
Believe in myself!
Strive for greatness!
And all the best to everyone racing tomorrow...
Clocked 4min54sec for my 1500m race today.
Far cry from my personal best. Muscles were aching throughout the race.
No problem. Time to rest up, recover, pick up momentum once again and come back stronger in the next race! 💪💪💪

Nevertheless, I'm trusting God for a great race tomorrow! Time for some good stretching and rest tonight! 😴😴😴

And no, no one will care about the hours you put in at training, the pain you put your body through, the aches your heart gets when you’re disappointed with yourself, the times where you cry behind the closed doors. No one cares, only yourself. And you’d do it because it gives you the best happiness, the biggest smiles and the warmest heart. Find a place where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain. This is my joy. 🔥
📸 Thank you @aiksooon for the capture!☺️
