Well, the rain is still here in Orange County, should be gone by tonight though! .
Alex has been a trooper while I’m at work all day, managing all the chores including emptying the composting toilet, feeding Kaya, walking her, checking the tarp and bungees, calling the stove delivery company, etc.. all in the rain! After all that, his clothes are soaked and have been for days now!! .
The tarp managed to hold up through the storm, and so far no leaks! I’d call it a huge success.

Day 242: Uyuni Salt Flats / Salar de Uyuni. I was here a few years ago when it was completely dry - what a difference a bit of rain makes! I contemplated driving through it, but after seeing the 4WDs getting bogged, I decided to admire from the sideline. People kept asking for photos of me and the moto. One lady even wanted me to hold her baby 😆 Did a quick trip to the Train Cemetery and saw a bunch of flamingos on the way also.
Remembering the beautiful ocean blues and seaside yoga as motivation to pack up the pup and make the 24+ hour trip back home! One would think the sub-zero temperatures of the frozen north (with no end in sight) would do the trick. But I have made the cross country drive to one coast or the other 11 times in six years. Add a giant dog and winter weather for pure dread! We did the trip practically straight through in November, so I'm thinking some sightseeing is in order this time around. Anyone suggest a can't miss hiking spot for a girl and her Dutch Shepherd? West Virginia? Is there even anything in Ohio? #sorryohio#militarylife#roadtrip#westvirginia#mountainmama#headingsouth#travel#yogi#headstand#inversion#beachyoga#coastallife
“The empty spaces of your soul are the ones you search for, pray for and want so desperately to be filled. They are also the spaces that will never be filled, until you are ready to do something you have never done.”
~ Shannon L. Alder
A few people have asked me as the build wraps up: "What is the most important piece of advice for someone starting a van build without prior experience?" When I sketched out the design and listed the amenities we wanted, there were plenty of people on various forums and in person who said that I was trying to fit too much in, especially for an amateur builder. A stainless steel shower AND a separate cassette toilet AND interior storage for mountain bikes AND a queen bed AND a swing out motorcycle AND completely usable in the winter?? If you can dream it, draw it, and source, the components, you CAN build it. Take your time and get it right, build it exactly how YOU want it. Sure, you have to be realistic, but just because it hasn't been done before doesn't mean that it isn't a good design. Everyone has different priorities and ideas of what is right or best in a van-you have to sort through this and decide what is best for you! The build is *wrapping up*...I often wonder if it will truly ever actually be done. In the garage I see unfinished rear door panels, a cabinet door needed by the water tank, a clasp missing on the electrical compartment...I'm sure many of you can relate. It's good to be picky, but Anne always tries to remind me not to be too hard on myself and to look at the build as a whole rather than getting overwhelmed by the details. @roadlifeadventures#VanlifeExplorers
