When an earthquake damaged highways and bridges near Anchorage late last year, @akaerialmedia partnered with the @alaska_dotpf to capture damage assessments by drone and prioritize the repairs. Read our “Mission Report” about it:
Helinet Production Group has recently integrated the DJI Multilink into all of our shoots with DJI Inspire 2. The experience has been great for the Helinet drone crews as the overall quality of image transmission and communication with the Inspire 2 has greatly improved for the Slave controllers.
Prior to using the Multilink, the Master controller antennas would need to be pointed towards the Slave controller for a reliable connection. If a person or object were between the Master and Slave controller, most likely the Slave controller’s connection would drop out. Measures would have to be taken during flight that were not ideal and thus expose the operation to failure while trying to get a shot for the Production. Since using the Multilink, the Pilot has been able to roam around in order to maintain line-of-sight of the Inspire 2 without any drop in connection for the multiple Slave controllers.
Our experience has been primarily with the standard controller while operating with Inspire 2. We have yet to integrate the Cendence controllers into our workflow and therefore we don’t have much experience with the Multilink and Cendence at this point.
The ecosystem of the Inspire 2 has greatly improved in the last 2 years for production-friendly support. The Helinet Production Group is very pleased to add the Multilink to the already reliable Inspire 2 and X7. While working on a hit TV series recently, we were able to complete a continuous shot that involved 6 personnel. The shot required a 1st AC pulling focus, an Aerial DP, Pilot, 2x UAS handheld operators and a UAS technician. This continuous shot would have been nearly impossible without the Multilinks.
With this level of reliability and the option to connect additional Slave controllers for the Focus Technician, Video Village, etc., we will continue to use the Multilinks on all of our Inspire 2 shoots. To date, we have used the Multilinks on large budget feature films, hit series television shows and national commercials.
