The Sentinel Revisited
I knew it had snowed on Sierra Blanca peak. According to the weather, the storm would be clearing around sunset, so I took the chance and drove the 2 1/2 hours to get to my favorite petroglyph. I have taken this photograph many times before. It is my favorite. I think the Jornada Mogollon people that lived in this area were so creative. Their art is somewhat mystical and haunting. This same face shows up in other petroglyphs in the area. There are many other petroglyphs that are just as mysterious.
As I arrived, the clouds still covered the mountains. I thought maybe the trip would be in vain. As soon as the sun set, the clouds began to dissipate. In no time at all, there were no clouds in the sky, just a few hanging out around the mountain. Alpen glow set in. What happened next, I have waited my whole life for as a photographer. The sun that had long since set reflected off the atmosphere and a warm rosy glow reflected off the ice crystals in the sky above the mountain. The drive, the hike in, and the time waiting was so well worth it. I said a prayer and gave thanks. I waited around for a few more hours and photographed the stars above this amazing work of art. Magic does happen.
An outdoor tub in a side yard off the master bath, hidden from prying eyes.
What a treat to bathe while gazing at the stars above.
