I started duck hunting in 2013. My very first hunt @jimmyjoebob17 and I went back into a swamp in New Jersey with nothing but our guns and a duck call. Ever since I started hunting deer, turkey pheasant and other small game at 15 years old, duck hunting was one of those awesome things I knew I’d love. Watching professionals on TV with all the action got me amped up. The problem was to effectively hunt ducks you usually need more than just a gun. But that’s all I had. No gear. No spots. No one to learn from. So I never did it. Until this time. We shouldn’t have come close. We got in after sunrise crouched down in the grass and blew the call. What happened next is something that will evade many legitimate Waterfowlers for years. Hundreds of birds got up out of the swamp. Wave after wave scattering to the morning sky in mass chaos. Stunned we brought our guns to our shoulders and started shooting. For an hour hundreds of birds came and went. I shot my first bird. A mallard hen in the first photo. We were amazed and I was hooked. The past few days here in #oklahoma have been tough but we managed to nab a beautiful #greenhead . Looking back to that first hunt and where we are now as Waterfowlers, I’ve decided to go for the ultimate goal of accomplishing the grand slam. 41 birds from puddlers to divers, geese to swans, Sandhills to sea ducks. I’ve gotten 13 since that first hunt and over the next few days I’ll be posting some firsts and stories about these hunts and again on the 28 more species to come. So follow along with the excursion over the next few years @screamin_chicken_outdoors . I promise you won’t be disappointed. Oh yea Larry will be there too. - Fuego
Early morning hunt and I’m back to work.
I was seriously spoiled in Louisiana. The marsh was ten minutes from my house and lunch break hunts happened on the reg. Let’s just say it’s a lot father now. #duckhunter
