We spend so much time looking for mentors, for hero’s, for coaches, for guides, etc...that we don’t even realize that we may be our best resource for inspiration. Think of where you’ve been. How far you’ve come. Where you are headed. Congratulate yourself. Encourage yourself. Be expectant and grateful when you look in the mirror. You are looking at greatness—either in its beginning stage, in mid-development, or at full throttle. Keep ya head up, look in the mirror, and encourage yourself. You. Are. Greatness.
Back at the pottery studio this week working on orders for custom dog bowls... It’s hard to believe I’ve had my Etsy Shop for almost 4 years now. I’ve made over 400 sales and over 300 dog bowls. No boss, no assistant, no HR department... Just me and my wheel.
I’m not sure what I would be doing now had I not discovered my passion for clay and the leap of faith I took in pursuing my creative ambitions.
Before this, I worked at an entertainment marketing agency. My clients included movie studios in Los Angeles, and my job was to come up with strategic integrated campaigns for films. I got to read scripts, go to screenings and schmooze at movie premieres and parties. The money was great and being young and single, it was perfect for me. But soon my focus shifted and it became all about the money and not the work. Once that happens, your job becomes unfulfilling, no matter what you do. Going to work made me sick and I could feel my skin crawl as soon as I walked in the door. I stared at my computer all day and looked at the clock every 30 minutes. It was time to leave... I didn’t discover clay until 3 months after I left my job, and those few months of being unemployed and not knowing what I wanted to do in life was fucking scary, tbh. I tried crocheting, designing swimsuits, maybe become a yoga teacher, photographer?...I was all over the place. Then, I stepped into a ceramics studio and now here we are... Being a ceramist is not glamorous. I have clay smeared on my face on most days, but the feeling of working with my hands and making something, even when that something is a mess, feels damn good. And even though ceramics hasn’t made me rich, it certainly has made me feel fulfilled knowing there are people in this world who appreciate my craft.
Thank you for all your support, and I hope you are happy.
I hope you’re doing what you love and if you’re not, stop and take the leap this year into the unknown. #sweetheartceramics #2019 #leapoffaith#ceramics#trysomethingnew#ceramic#pottery#art#craft#maker#crafting#making#makers#makersmovement#makersgonnamake#dogbowls#slowfeeder#slowbowl#slowbowls#ceramicbowls#slowfeeders#etsy#etsyshop#goals

Here’s how I threw those bowls I posted yesterday. ☝️Throwing off the hump is my favorite thing to do right now. It’s a challenge for me making small things and throwing off the hump has never come easy for me. Right now I’m finding some success so I’m rolling with it! Small things are fun cause I can make so many at a time! Very rewarding 🙏😄 I’ll share my carving process later. 😉 I’ve got my serious scrunch face on. Full concentration mode
