I finished On the Come Up early this morning (thanks insomnia) and it’s a perfect follow up to The Hate U Give. Bri is super relatable at a teen trying to figure out her place in the world while carrying the burden of wanting to help pull her family out of poverty. The hip-hop references were plentiful and wonderful. I just finished my History of hip-hop class at school so this was perfect timing to read. Definitely check it out if you’re a fan of anything hip-hop and YA, with a dash of social justice.

Cora stopped by the Board of Trustees meeting in March and Board President Chris Hutchings congratulated her (and Mom) on being well on her way to reaching 1,000 books before Kindergarten! Cora was first to reach both 100 and 200 books in the program.
#QOTD : Are you a horror fan? If so what are some of your favorite subgenres? Any you can't tolerate?
Good morning, book friends! Hope your Toosday is tolerable. Another difficult day over here. This week is definitely a challenge.
I love Ania Ahlborn! I couldn't read The Bird Eater at night it was so creepy. Unfortunately, this is her only book so far I hated.
This is def a me problem and not a her problem, though. I went in without even reading the publisher summary. Oops. This book is about a family of derranged serial killers in West VA. NOT my brand of horror.
If you like horrific people rather than horrific creatures or paranormal happens, definitely check it out! There are plenty of twists and turns, but it just wasn't my brand.
It is as well-written and crafted as her other novels, and it definitely will not be my last Ahlborn. I just wish I had dnf-ed it. #books#bookstagram#instabooks#brother#horror#killers#serialkillers#horrorbooks#reading#bookish#igreads#nerd#booknerd#librarybooks#librarylife#librarynerd

I joined the library last week. When we first moved to Brighton I was getting more review copies than I could handle, so borrowing more books didn't feel like a priority. When I stopped blogging that came to an end, but I was out of the habit of visiting the library and never got around to joining.
I've been feeling guilty about this recently. Library use is on the decline, which puts libraries under threat for everyone. I've also felt a little uncomfortable with how often I've posted newly bought books here. Obviously I don't think buying books is ever a bad thing, but I want my focus to be the reading rather than the accumulating.
I got my brand new library card on Wednesday, and only took out one book this time: Pat Barker's The Silence of the Girls. I've also borrowed two books from my mum - Anna Burns' Milkman and Daisy Johnson's Everything Under - that I've had my eye on for a while.
While I'm thrilled with my library find, I am finding it less photogenic than a new book. Do you feature library books on your #bookstagram ? Any tips for reducing that protective plastic glare?
